A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TLDR
In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

Lipid and phospholipid fatty acid composition of plasma, red blood cells, and platelets and how they are affected by dietary lipids: a study of normal subjects from Italy, Finland, and the USA.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the fatty acid compositions of the glycerolphospholipids of plasma, RBCs, and platelets reflect the major dietary fatty acids.

Lipid analysis by matrix-assisted laser desorption and ionization mass spectrometry: A methodological approach.

TL;DR: The application of MALDI-TOF-MS for the analysis of diacylglycerols, phosphatidylcholines, and (poly)phosphoinositides is reported here for the first time, and it is shown that in a matrix of 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid the molecular ions are easily detected even in complex mixtures, and thus, detailed data on the fatty acid composition are provided.

Prevention of cholesterol gallstone disease by FXR agonists in a mouse model

TL;DR: In this article, the same authors describe the same phenotype in mice lacking the bile acid receptor, FXR, and show that FXR-dependent increases in biliary bile salt and phospholipid concentrations restored cholesterol solubility and thereby prevented gallstone formation.

Gangliosides in the nervous system.

TL;DR: Gangliosides may regulate cell growth and nerve sprouting, suggesting the potential therapeutic value for some neurological disorders and current ganglioside research is more rapidly growing largely due to advancing methodologies.

A novel mechanism for the biogenesis of outer membrane vesicles in Gram-negative bacteria

TL;DR: The results suggest a new general mechanism of OMV biogenesis based on phospholipid accumulation in the outer leaflet of the outer membrane, which is highly conserved among Gram-negative bacteria, provides a means for regulation, can account for OMV formation under all growth conditions, and might have important pathophysiological roles in vivo.

Preparation of lipide extracts from brain tissue.

TL;DR: A simple method is described for the preparation of extracts of total pure lipides from brain tissue by homogenizing the tissue with a chloroform-methanol mixture and washing free of non-lipide contaminants.

The quantitative estimation of cerebrosides in nervous tissue.

TL;DR: The values for cerebrosides found in the current literature include gangliosides, and other investigators (JOHNSON, MCNABB, and ROSSITER, 1950; CUMINGS, 1953; BLACKWOOD and CUMings, 1954) have neglected the ganglariosides.

Isolation of brain strandin, a new type of large molecule tissue component.

TL;DR: The isolation from brain tissue of a substance to which the name of strandin has been given for descriptive purposes is reported, which has the property of forming long strands that show perfect orientation under polarized light.
