A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TLDR
In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

Extraction of tissue lipids with a solvent of low toxicity.

TL;DR: This chapter discusses the extraction of tissue lipids with a solvent of low toxicity, and a convenient way to reduce the volume of the lipid extract, a factor to consider in working on a large scale.

Phospholipids in tissues of the eye. I. Isolation, characterization and quantitative analysis by two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography of diacyl and vinyl-ether phospholipids.

TL;DR: Total phospholipid concentration in retina was relatively high, in vitreous body very low, and in iris, choroid, lens, cornea and sciera intermediate, and the concentrations of phosphatidyl glycerol, diphosphatidic acid, lysophosph atidyl choline and the unidentifiedospholipids were very low.

Carotenoids in biological emulsions: solubility, surface-to-core distribution, and release from lipid droplets

TL;DR: The results show that polar and apolar carotenoids behave differently in biological emulsions, which further the understanding of the bioavailability of polar and Apolar carOTenoids and of their distribution between lipoprotein particles.

Effect of active accumulation of calcium and phosphate ions on the structure of rat liver mitochondria

TL;DR: Rat liver mitochondria allowed to accumulate maximal amounts of Ca++ and HPO4 = ions from the suspending medium in vitro during respiration have a considerably higher specific gravity than normal mitochondria and may be easily separated from the latter by isopycnic centrifugation in density gradients of sucrose or cesium chloride.

Cognitive decline and fatty acid composition of erythrocyte membranes—The EVA Study

TL;DR: The inverse association between cognitive decline and the ratio of n-3 to n-6 fatty acids in erythrocyte membranes agrees with results obtained in some studies that assessed fatty acid intake by using dietary questionnaires.

Preparation of lipide extracts from brain tissue.

TL;DR: A simple method is described for the preparation of extracts of total pure lipides from brain tissue by homogenizing the tissue with a chloroform-methanol mixture and washing free of non-lipide contaminants.

The quantitative estimation of cerebrosides in nervous tissue.

TL;DR: The values for cerebrosides found in the current literature include gangliosides, and other investigators (JOHNSON, MCNABB, and ROSSITER, 1950; CUMINGS, 1953; BLACKWOOD and CUMings, 1954) have neglected the ganglariosides.

Isolation of brain strandin, a new type of large molecule tissue component.

TL;DR: The isolation from brain tissue of a substance to which the name of strandin has been given for descriptive purposes is reported, which has the property of forming long strands that show perfect orientation under polarized light.
