The authors specify a progressive (cascading) pattern among ability-based EI facets, in which emotion perception must causally precede emotion understanding, which in turn precedes conscious emotion regulation and job performance.
Abstract
Research and valid practice in emotional intelligence (EI) have been impeded by lack of theoretical clarity regarding (a) the relative roles of emotion perception, emotion understanding, and emotion regulation facets in explaining job performance; (b) conceptual redundancy of EI with cognitive intelligence and Big Five personality; and (c) application of the EI label to 2 distinct sets of constructs (i.e., ability-based EI and mixed-based EI). In the current article, the authors propose and then test a theoretical model that integrates these factors. They specify a progressive (cascading) pattern among ability-based EI facets, in which emotion perception must causally precede emotion understanding, which in turn precedes conscious emotion regulation and job performance. The sequential elements in this progressive model are believed to selectively reflect Conscientiousness, cognitive ability, and Neuroticism, respectively. "Mixed-based" measures of EI are expected to explain variance in job performance beyond cognitive ability and personality. The cascading model of EI is empirically confirmed via meta-analytic data, although relationships between ability-based EI and job performance are shown to be inconsistent (i.e., EI positively predicts performance for high emotional labor jobs and negatively predicts performance for low emotional labor jobs). Gender and race differences in EI are also meta-analyzed. Implications for linking the EI fad in personnel selection to established psychological theory are discussed.

Profile similarity metrics as an alternate framework to score rating-based tests: MSCEIT reanalyses.

TL;DR: This paper used profile similarity metrics (i.e., shape, elevation, and scatter) to evaluate the construct-related validity for rating-based judgment tests, and found that the MSCEIT is best described by a single factor that is highly g -loaded, ( r ǫ = Ã 0.79), not multiple factors with low g -loadings as hypothesized by its measurement model.

Factors Affecting Consumer Food Preferences: Food Taste and Depression-Based Evoked Emotional Expressions with the Use of Face Reading Technology

TL;DR: It is suggested that mood has a strong link with the choice of food, and many factors are of high importance in the analysis of food choices, and the results obtained using the FaceReader 6 technique are very promising for food-mood relation analysis.

Developing meaningfulness at work through emotional intelligence training

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show how emotional intelligence training promotes learning around sources of meaningful work and documents managers' experiences of independently applying what they have learnt about meaningfulness from the EI training to the workplace.

Corrections for criterion reliability in validity generalization: A false prophet in a land of suspended judgment.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate a statistical dysfunction that is a direct result of using low criterion reliabilities in corrections for attenuation, and show that the corrections often used in single predictor studies yield a squared multiple correlation that appears suspect.

Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: An Integrative, Process-Oriented Theory of Student Leadership

TL;DR: In this article, an integrative, process-oriented Emotionally Intelligent Leadership (EIL) theory is proposed to provide a framework for conceptualizing and integrating future research and practice, and the authors conclude with practical implications for leadership development in the context of higher education.

Cutoff criteria for fit indexes in covariance structure analysis : Conventional criteria versus new alternatives

TL;DR: In this article, the adequacy of the conventional cutoff criteria and several new alternatives for various fit indexes used to evaluate model fit in practice were examined, and the results suggest that, for the ML method, a cutoff value close to.95 for TLI, BL89, CFI, RNI, and G...

The role of positive emotions in positive psychology. The broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions.

TL;DR: The theory and findings suggest that the capacity to experience positive emotions may be a fundamental human strength central to the study of human flourishing.
