Abstract
Research and valid practice in emotional intelligence (EI) have been impeded by lack of theoretical clarity regarding (a) the relative roles of emotion perception, emotion understanding, and emotion regulation facets in explaining job performance; (b) conceptual redundancy of EI with cognitive intelligence and Big Five personality; and (c) application of the EI label to 2 distinct sets of constructs (i.e., ability-based EI and mixed-based EI). In the current article, the authors propose and then test a theoretical model that integrates these factors. They specify a progressive (cascading) pattern among ability-based EI facets, in which emotion perception must causally precede emotion understanding, which in turn precedes conscious emotion regulation and job performance. The sequential elements in this progressive model are believed to selectively reflect Conscientiousness, cognitive ability, and Neuroticism, respectively. "Mixed-based" measures of EI are expected to explain variance in job performance beyond cognitive ability and personality. The cascading model of EI is empirically confirmed via meta-analytic data, although relationships between ability-based EI and job performance are shown to be inconsistent (i.e., EI positively predicts performance for high emotional labor jobs and negatively predicts performance for low emotional labor jobs). Gender and race differences in EI are also meta-analyzed. Implications for linking the EI fad in personnel selection to established psychological theory are discussed.

Cognitive Control and Emotional Intelligence: Effect of the Emotional Content of the Task. Brief Reports.

TL;DR: The results showed that high and low EI groups did not differ on cool task performance, while the high EI group was better at carrying out the hot task, and this is discussed in relation to recent literature that considers the role of EI in cognitive processes.

Relationship between emotional intelligence, personality, and self-perceived individual work performance: A cross-sectional study on the Swedish version of TEIQue-SF

TL;DR: In this article, the authors validate the Swedish version of TEIQue-SF by investigating its internal consistency, exploring its relationships with "Big Six" and "Dark Triad" personality traits as well as with self-perceived individual work performance, identifying which personality traits best explain variations in Trait EI, and whether this trait can predict variations in work performance over and above personality traits.

Impact of Construction Project Managers’ Emotional Intelligence on Project Success

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine how the construction project manager's emotional intelligence influences project success, and whether the relations with internal and external stakeholders interfere as mediators in that relationship.

The Insensitive Ruins It All: Compositional and Compilational Influences of Social Sensitivity on Collective Intelligence in Groups.

TL;DR: The empirical results indicate that collectively intelligent groups are those in which the least socially sensitive group member has a rather high score on social sensitivity, and (socially sensitive) group members cannot compensate for the lack of social sensitivity of the other group members.

Cutoff criteria for fit indexes in covariance structure analysis : Conventional criteria versus new alternatives

TL;DR: In this article, the adequacy of the conventional cutoff criteria and several new alternatives for various fit indexes used to evaluate model fit in practice were examined, and the results suggest that, for the ML method, a cutoff value close to.95 for TLI, BL89, CFI, RNI, and G...
