Frequency domain equalization for single-carrier broadband wireless systems
TLDR
This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions and discusses similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and presents examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.Abstract:
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.read more

A bit-labeling design for trellis-shaped single-carrier PSK with PAPR reduction
TL;DR: This paper demonstrates that the uncoded bit error rate (BER) and PAPR reduction capability of the TS considerably depend on the bit labeling, and proposes a new bit labeling for high-order PSK constellation that can efficiently reduce P APR while achieving BER performance comparable to that of Gray labeling.

Digital Processing of Single-Carrier Cyclic Prefixed Frequency Channelized Receiver for Serial Links
Won Namgoong,Lei Feng +1 more
TL;DR: A promising approach to relax the ADC requirements so as to enable Nyquist-rate digitization is to channelize the received signal into multiple frequency subbands and then sample using a bank of low-frequency ADCs.

Diversity Techniques for HARQ Transmissions over Frequency-Selective Channels
TL;DR: This thesis considers the problem of reliable data packets transmission using single-carrier signaling over frequency-selective fading channels and proposes a novel transmit-diversity scheme between subsequent HARQ transmissions, called phase-precoding, which allows the mitigation of intersymbol interference for slow time-varying channels.

Analysis and Simulation of a Digital Mobile Channel Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
TL;DR: The analysis and simulation of a technique for combating the effects of multipath propagation and cochannel interference on a narrow-band digital mobile channel using the discrete Fourier transform to orthogonally frequency multiplex many narrow subchannels, each signaling at a very low rate, into one high-rate channel is discussed.
