TLDR
A historical perspective is provided of some of the major milestones in HIV science, highlighting how translational research has affected treatment and prevention and the scientific challenges ahead in the search for a cure for HIV.Abstract:
This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of the study that first reported the isolation of HIV-1. In this Timeline article, we provide a historical perspective of some of the major milestones in HIV science, highlighting how translational research has affected treatment and prevention of HIV. Finally, we discuss some of the current research directions and the scientific challenges ahead, in particular in the search for a cure for HIV.read more

Dietary Selenium in Adjuvant Therapy of Viral and Bacterial Infections
TL;DR: A recent review as mentioned in this paper provides an up-to-date overview on selenium in infectious diseases caused by viruses (e.g., HIV, IAV, hepatitis C virus, poliovirus, West Nile virus) and bacteria (i.e., M. tuberculosis, Helicobacter pylori).

CD14 + CD16 + monocytes are the main target of Zika virus infection in peripheral blood mononuclear cells in a paediatric study in Nicaragua.
TL;DR: A detailed picture of the innate immune profile of ZIKV infection is provided and highlights the important role of monocytes, and CD14+CD16+ monocytes in particular.

TL;DR: CCR6 is a marker for colon and blood CD4+ T cells enriched for replication-competent HIV DNA and novel eradication strategies should target HIV persistence in CCR6+CD4- T cells from various anatomic sites.

Rapid turnover of plasma virions and CD4 lymphocytes in HIV-1 infection
TL;DR: Treatment of infected patients with ABT-538 causes plasma HIV-1 levels to decrease exponentially and CD4 lymphocyte counts to rise substantially, indicating that replication of HIV- 1 in vivo is continuous and highly productive, driving the rapid turnover ofCD4 lymphocytes.
