Anthropometric Risk Factors for Cancers of the Biliary Tract in the Biliary Tract Cancers Pooling Project

Sarah S. Jackson, +67 more
- 01 Aug 2019 -
TL;DR: It is indicated that adult adiposity is associated with an increased risk of biliary tract cancer, particularly GBC and IHBDC, and this provides evidence for recommending weight maintenance programs to reduce the risk of developing these cancers.

Impact of obesity on the increasing incidence of type 1 diabetes.

TL;DR: The growing prevalence of obesity in childhood and adolescence offers a plausible explanation for the increase in T1D incidence observed in recent decades and further studies are needed to clarify whether the control of body weight can prevent or delay the current and continuing rise in T2D incidence.

Establishing a standard definition for child overweight and obesity worldwide: international survey

TL;DR: The proposed cut off points, which are less arbitrary and more internationally based than current alternatives, should help to provide internationally comparable prevalence rates of overweight and obesity in children.

Marie Ng, +141 more
- 30 Aug 2014 -
TL;DR: The global, regional, and national prevalence of overweight and obesity in children and adults during 1980-2013 is estimated using a spatiotemporal Gaussian process regression model to estimate prevalence with 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs).

Maternal and child undernutrition and overweight in low-income and middle-income countries

TL;DR: It is estimated that undernutrition in the aggregate--including fetal growth restriction, stunting, wasting, and deficiencies of vitamin A and zinc along with suboptimum breastfeeding--is a cause of 3·1 million child deaths annually or 45% of all child deaths in 2011.

Obesity in children and young people: a crisis in public health.

TL;DR: The present report has been written to focus attention on the issue and to urge policy-makers to consider taking action before it is too late.
