Worldwide trends in insufficient physical activity from 2001 to 2016: a pooled analysis of 358 population-based surveys with 1·9 million participants

TL;DR: If current trends continue, the 2025 global physical activity target (a 10% relative reduction in insufficient physical activity) will not be met and policies to increase population levels of physical activity need to be prioritised and scaled up urgently.

Obesity: global epidemiology and pathogenesis.

TL;DR: Although obesity prevalence increased in every single country in the world, regional differences exist in both obesity prevalence and trends; understanding the drivers of these regional differences might help to provide guidance on which are the most promising intervention strategies.

Progress achieved in restricting the marketing of high-fat, sugary and salty food and beverage products to children.

TL;DR: The progress being made towards the full implementation of Resolution WHA63.14 would be accelerated by further restrictions on the marketing of unhealthy food and beverage products and by investing in the promotion of nutrient-dense products, which should help young people meet government-recommended dietary targets.

Prevalence of obesity among Portuguese children (6-8 years old) using three definition criteria: COSI Portugal, 2008.

TL;DR: Portugal is one of the European countries with the highest prevalence of childhood obesity, and COSI is a robust monitoring system using standardized methods that allows comparability with other WHO European Region Member States.

25-year trends in gender disparity for obesity and overweight by using WHO and IOTF definitions among Chinese school-aged children: a multiple cross-sectional study.

TL;DR: The gradually increasing gender disparity in urban and rural areas suggests that the prevalence of obesity and overweight in boys, and especially in urban boys, contributes to a large and growing proportion of obese and overweight children.

Does being overweight impede academic attainment? A systematic review

TL;DR: Overall, the evidence suggested that higher weight is weakly associated with lower educational attainment among children and young people, with potentially negligible real-world implications for test scores.

Change in bias in self-reported body mass index in Australia between 1995 and 2008 and the evaluation of correction equations

TL;DR: The diminishing reporting bias in BMI in Australia means that correction equations derived from 2007-2008 data may not be transferable to earlier self- reported data, and predictions of future overweight and obesity in Australia based on trends in self-reported information are likely to be inaccurate.
