Abstract: The effects of e-commerce institutional mechanisms on trust and online purchase have traditionally been understood in the initial online purchase context. This study extends this literature by exploring the role of e-commerce institutional mechanisms in the online repurchase context. In doing so, it responds to the emerging call for understanding the institutional context under which customer trust operates in an e-commerce environment. Specifically, this study introduces a key moderator, perceived effectiveness of e-commerce institutional mechanisms (PEEIM), to the relationships between trust, satisfaction, and repurchase intention. Drawing on the theory of organizational trust, and based on a survey of 362 returning online customers, we find that PEEIM negatively moderates the relationship between trust in an online vendor and online customer repurchase intention, as it decreases the importance of trust to promoting repurchase behavior. We also find that PEEIM positively moderates the relationship between customer satisfaction and trust as it enhances the customer's reliance on past transaction experience with the vendor to reevaluate trust in the vendor. Consistent with the predictions made in the literature, PEEIM does not directly affect trust or repurchase intention. Academic and practical implications and future research directions are discussed.

Abstract: Burgeoning consumer interest in organically produced foods has made organic farming one of the fastest growing segments of agriculture. This growth has not been supported adequately by rigorous research to address challenges such as arthropod pest management. The research that has been conducted, however, is complemented by research in aspects of conventional agriculture that may have applicability in organic systems, as well as by research in underpinning fields such as applied ecology. This article synthesizes the available literature in relation to a conceptual model of arthropod pest management strategies suitable for organic systems. The present work uses the four phases of the model to review the strategies in an agroecological context and provides a synthesis of the factors that influence the success of each phase. Rather than constituting a fringe science, pest management research for organic systems draws on cutting edge science in fields such as landscape and chemical ecology and has a bright future.

Abstract: Conventional power distribution system is radial in nature, characterized by a single source feeding a network of downstream feeders. Protection scheme for distribution system, primarily consisting of fuses and reclosers and, in some cases, relays, has traditionally been designed assuming the system to be radial. After connecting distributed generation (DG), part of the system may no longer be radial, which means the coordination might not hold. The effect of DG on coordination will depend on size, type, and placement of DG. This paper explores the effect of high DG penetration on protective device coordination and suggests an adaptive protection scheme as a solution to the problems identified. Results of implementation of this scheme on a simulated actual distribution feeder are reported.

Abstract: A power-split hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) combines the advantages of both series and parallel hybrid vehicle architectures by utilizing a planetary gear set to split and combine the power produced by electric machines and a combustion engine. Because of the different modes of operation, devising a near optimal energy management strategy is quite challenging and essential for these vehicles. To improve the fuel economy of a power-split HEV, we first formulate the energy management problem as a nonlinear and constrained optimal control problem. Then two different cost functions are defined and model predictive control (MPC) strategies are utilized to obtain the power split between the combustion engine and electrical machines and the system operating points at each sample time. Simulation results on a closed-loop high-fidelity model of a power-split HEV over multiple standard drive cycles and with different controllers are presented. The results of a nonlinear MPC strategy show a noticeable improvement in fuel economy with respect to those of an available controller in the commercial Powertrain System Analysis Toolkit (PSAT) software and the other proposed methodology by the authors based on a linear time-varying MPC.
