29 Aug 1986TL;DR: In this article, an opaque, biaxially oriented film structure is described which comprises an expanded thermoplastic polymer matrix core layer within which is located a minor amount of a light absorbing pigment and a strata of voids; positioned at least substantially within at least a substantial number of said voids is at least one void-initiating particle which is phase distinct and incompatible with the matrix material.
Abstract: An opaque, biaxially oriented film structure is described which comprises: an expanded thermoplastic polymer matrix core layer within which is located a minor amount of a light-absorbing pigment and a strata of voids; positioned at least substantially within at least a substantial number of said voids is at least one void-initiating particle which is phase distinct and incompatible with the matrix material, the void space occupied by said particle being substantially less than the volume of said void, with one generally cross-sectional dimension of said particle, at least approximating a corresponding cross-sectional dimension of said void; the population of voids in said core and the thickness of said core being such as to cause a degree of opacity of less than 15% light transmission; and at least one void-free thermoplastic skin layer affixed to a surface of the core layer, said skin layer(s) being of a thickness such that the outer surfaces thereof do not, at least substantially, manifest the surface irregularities of said core layer.

14 Dec 1984TL;DR: In this article, a solar cell fabrication procedure is characterized by removal of the front surface electrode plating mask after preliminary metallization, followed by a passivation step which, inter alia, results in the formation of an altered silicon substrate surface layer.
Abstract: A solar cell fabrication procedure which is characterized by (1) removal of the front surface electrode plating mask after preliminary metallization of the front surface electrodes, (2) a passivation step which, inter alia, results in the formation of an altered silicon substrate surface layer, and (3) use of the altered surface layer as a plating mask for subsequent metallization steps involving, for example, immersion plating of nickel and immersion plating of electroplating of copper.

14 Sep 1979TL;DR: In this article, a coextruded thermoplastic film and the employment of such multi-layer film as stretch-wrap material for packaging of goods, including relatively large palletized loads of material.
Abstract: This present invention relates to novel coextruded thermoplastic film and the employment of such multi-layer film as stretch-wrap material for packaging of goods, including relatively large palletized loads of material. More specifically, such coextruded stretch-wrap films comprise three-layer laminations having a relatively thin skin layer and a relatively thicker core layer. Suitable skin layers include highly-branched low-density polyethylene, and suitable core layers include linear low-density polyethylene co-polymers, such as ethylene co-polymerized with a minor amount of at least one C 4 to C 10 alpha-olefin, such as octene-1 and 4-methyl-pentene-1, and butene-1.
