TL;DR: Nur et al. as discussed by the authors reported results from work carried out by their group to measure compressional and shear wave velocities, as well as attenuation, in samples of heavy oil sands from several reservoirs.
Abstract: In 1984, Professor Amos Nur of Stanford University presented a paper at the SEG Annual International Meeting in which he reported results from work carried out by his group to measure compressional and shear wave velocities, as well as attenuation, in samples of heavy oil sands from several reservoirs Although the explanation for the observed effect was not clear, the results suggested that acoustic velocities and attenuation in sands saturated with heavy oils are strongly dependent on the degree of heating of the sample To many who heard that presentation, it was apparent that these observations might provide the basis for applying geophysical technology to the problem of monitoring the progression of flood fronts in thermal enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects in heavy oil reservoirs Since that time, a number of important projects have been carried out to test the theory and to attempt to verify the results predicted by the laboratory experiments It is reasonable to say that results, to date, have b

15 Oct 1986TL;DR: In this article, heavy oils are simultaneously subjected to cracking and dewaxing in the absence of added hydrogen using a catalyst comprising Zeolite Beta and an X or Y or other faujasite zeolite.
Abstract: Heavy oils are simultaneously subjected to cracking and dewaxing in the absence of added hydrogen using a catalyst comprising Zeolite Beta and an X or Y or other faujasite zeolite. The process is able to effect a bulk conversion of the oil, while, at the same time, yielding a higher octane gasoline, increased yields of C3 and C4 olefins, and a low pour point distillate product.

06 Jan 1975TL;DR: In this article, a process for the selective production of paraxylene by methylation of toluene at a temperature between about 500°C and about 750°C was described.
Abstract: Process for the selective production of paraxylene by methylation of toluene at a temperature between about 500°C. and about 750°C. and preferably between about 575°C. and about 700°C. in the presence of a catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite said zeolite having a silica to alumina mole ratio of at last about 12 and a constraint index, as hereinafter defined, within the approximate range of 1 to 12.

22 Dec 1992TL;DR: In this article, a method for synthesizing a new synthetic composition of ultra-large pore crystalline material which can be used as a sorbent or catalyst component for conversion of organic and inorganic compounds is provided.
Abstract: There is provided a method for synthesizing a new synthetic composition of ultra-large pore crystalline material which can be used as a sorbent or catalyst component for conversion of organic and inorganic compounds. The crystalline material product of this method exhibits unusually large sorption capacity demonstrated by its benzene adsorption capacity of greater than about 15 grams benzene/100 grams at 50 torr and 25° C. This material may have a hexagonal electron diffraction pattern that can be indexed with a d100 value greater than about 18 Angstrom Units and a hexagonal arrangement of uniformly sized pores with a maximum perpendicular cross section of at least about 13 Angstrom units. The reaction mixture for preparing this material is prepared by forming a solution containing a source of an oxide, followed by adding a gelling reagent to this solution to form a gel.
