TL;DR: In this paper, a set of ribbon coatings is attached to the casing at a same location (32) of the casing such that the optical fiber ribbons extend from the same location of a casing.
Abstract: A fiber optic backplane (20) has a casing portion (22) and multiple fiber optic ribbons (28) that extend from the same location (32) of the casing portion. One arrangement includes multiple optical fibers (26), a casing (22) and a set of ribbon coatings (24). The casing holds casing portions of the optical fibers. The set of ribbon coatings (24) holds ribbon portions of the optical fibers in rows to form multiple optical fiber ribbons. Each ribbon coating of the set of ribbon coatings attaches to the casing at a same location (32) of the casing such that the optical fiber ribbons extend from the same location of the casing. The multiple optical fiber ribbons extending from the same casing location enable higher optical fiber densities than conventional fiber optic backplanes which only have parallel ribbon portions extending from different locations (e.g., centimeters apart) of a central backplane portion.

TL;DR: This article focuses on a technique developed to measure and calibrate the PJ amplitude of the ATE jitter insertion circuit that uses a measurement tool called the walking strobe to systematically capture the jittered waveform and reconstruct it such that the jitter amplitude measurement consists of a series of edge time measurements.
Abstract: Jitter insertion is a feature an automatic test equipment (ATE) provides for high speed SerDes device jitter tolerance testing. The amplitude of inserted periodic jitter (PJ) and its frequency are programmable. This article focuses on a technique developed to measure and calibrate the PJ amplitude of the ATE jitter insertion circuit. It uses a measurement tool called the walking strobe to systematically capture the jittered waveform and reconstruct it such that the jitter amplitude measurement consists of a series of edge time measurements. The method is accurate, fast, and low cost. This paper will also present experimental results.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of allocating subscriber lines in a telecommunications network into speed bins is proposed, where the lines are divided into speed bin using a pair of neural networks, with one predicting upstream speed and one predicting downstream speed.
Abstract: A method of allocating subscriber lines in a telecommunications network into speed bins. With the method, more intelligent business actions can then be taken in the provision of high-speed data services over the subscriber lines. For example, only qualified lines might be used for high-speed data services, with the other lines being allocated to POTS service. The lines are divided into speed bins using a pair of neural networks, with one predicting upstream speed and one predicting downstream speed. The combined predictions are then mapped to a speed bin, which is the basis for further business actions. The disclosure describes that the neural networks are created using conditional fuzzy logic to precondition the neural networks by line speed.

TL;DR: In this article, a thermal test system for testing a unit such as multiple solid oxide fuel cells is presented, in which a non-contact electrostatic voltage probe is mounted to scan the fuel cells and the measured voltages are processed to compute a representative voltage for each fuel cell.
Abstract: A test system for testing a unit such as multiple solid oxide fuel cells The test system includes a thermal test chamber in which a non-contact electrostatic voltage probe is mounted to scan the solid oxide fuel cells The test system includes a detector coupled to the voltage probe to produce an output signal or display based on the measured voltages The measured voltages are processed to compute a representative voltage for each fuel cell and to identify any defective fuel cells based on the measured voltages The test system may be used during manufacture of solid oxide fuel cell stacks for cost effective testing to lower manufacturing costs
