TL;DR: The morning glory weed was shown a suitable alternate host for the species, allowing its development and reproduction in the absence of cultivated hosts, and the soybean leaves were the least suitable for the development of S. eridania.

TL;DR: Adaptations to plyometric training may be enhanced with creatine supplementation, and the CREATINE group improved more in the jumps and repeated sprinting performance tests than the CONTROL and the PLACEBO groups.

TL;DR: The SN-PCR technique developed in this study will make possible the realization of diagnosis and comparative epidemiological studies to evaluate BPV-2 infection rates in cattle, and the association of this infection with bracken fern chronic intoxication in the etiology of enzootic haematuria and opens the possibility of ante mortem studies by lymphocytes analysis.

TL;DR: To compare the hemodynamic response during resistance exercise at high intensity (HI), low intensity (LI) and low intensity with blood flow restriction (LI‐BFR) in healthy subjects, data are analyzed in three phases: high intensity, low intensity and high intensity.
Abstract: Summary Correspondence Marcos Polito, Universidade Estadual de Londrina– Rod, Celso Garcia Cid, km 380, Londrina, PR86050-520, BrazilE-mail: marcospolito@uel.br Accepted for publication Received 28 April 2014;accepted 31 October 2014 Key words blood pressure; cardiovascular physiology; resistancetraining; strength; vascular occlusion Purpose: To compare the hemodynamic response during resistance exercise at highintensity (HI), low intensity (LI) and low intensity with blood flow restriction(LI-BFR) in healthy subjects. Methods: Twelve men performed three sets of unilateral knee extension exercises atLI-BFR and LI (15 repetitions; 20% of 1RM) and HI (8 repetitions; 80% of 1RM).The blood flow restriction was accomplished using a sphygmomanometer posi-tioned on the thigh and inflated to the point of blood flow interruption(167 9 16 6 mmHg). The hemodynamic variables were obtained by continu-ous beat-to-beat photoplethysmography. Rating of perceived exertion (RPE) andblood lactate were also measured. Results: The HI session showed higher values (P<0 05) in all sets than the LI andLI-BFR for diastolic blood pressure, heart rate and rate-pressure product. TheLI-BFR showed higher values than the LI only in the 3rd set for systolic bloodpressure, heart rate and rate-pressure product. Blood lactate was higher in the HI(4 2 0 2 mmol) and LI-BFR (4 1 0 3 mmol) than the LI(3 5 0 3 mmol). Rating of perceived exertion was higher in the LI-BFR(7 9 0 3) than the HI (6 4 0 4) and LI (3 2 0 4).Conclusion: The LI-BFR session exhibited similar blood lactate to the HI, a higherrating of perceived response than the HI and LI, and equal or lower hemodynamicresponses than the HI.

TL;DR: The objective of this study was to isolate and characterize Streptococcus spp.
Abstract: The objective of this study was to isolate and characterize Streptococcus spp. in Nile tilapias (Oreochromis niloticus) reared in net-pens and earth nurseries. Eight intensive tilapia-rearing farms were investigated in north Parana, Brazil from April 1st 2001 to April 30th 2002. The fish were reared in a system of hapas nets on four farms and in earth nurseries on other four farms. A total of 370 samples were analyzed of material collected from 120 fish (brain, liver, kidney, skin scrapes, ascites liquid and eye) that were sown on BHI agar (Brain Heart Infusion) supplemented with 1% yeast extract and sheep blood. Streptococcus spp. was isolated in 36 of the samples (18 brain, eight liver, eight kidney and two ascites liquid) from 25 fish. Streptococci were isolated in both systems, almost in the same proportion. First the streptococci were characterized by the catalase and esculin test, growth in methylene blue and sodium chloride at 6.5%. They were classified in groups by the Slidex Strepto-Kit (BioMerieux, France). The phenotypic characteristics were determined by the Api 20 Strep microtest system (BioMerieux, France). The 36 Streptococcus spp. samples did not present hemolysis and were classified as Lancefield group B. Further 16 samples were identified as Streptococcus agalactiae and 20 were not identified by the Api 20 Strep, but presented the same biochemical profile described for the reference strain of Streptococcus difficile (ND-2-22).
