Image Processing
TLDR
The main focus in MUCKE is on cleaning large scale Web image corpora and on proposing image representations which are closer to the human interpretation of images.Abstract:
MUCKE aims to mine a large volume of images, to structure them conceptually and to use this conceptual structuring in order to improve large-scale image retrieval. The last decade witnessed important progress concerning low-level image representations. However, there are a number problems which need to be solved in order to unleash the full potential of image mining in applications. The central problem with low-level representations is the mismatch between them and the human interpretation of image content. This problem can be instantiated, for instance, by the incapability of existing descriptors to capture spatial relationships between the concepts represented or by their incapability to convey an explanation of why two images are similar in a content-based image retrieval framework. We start by assessing existing local descriptors for image classification and by proposing to use co-occurrence matrices to better capture spatial relationships in images. The main focus in MUCKE is on cleaning large scale Web image corpora and on proposing image representations which are closer to the human interpretation of images. Consequently, we introduce methods which tackle these two problems and compare results to state of the art methods. Curvature of n-dimensional space curves in grey-value images
Bernd Rieger,L.J. van Vliet +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an estimator for local curvature of space curves embedded in n-dimensional (n-D) grey-value images is presented. But this estimator works on the orientation field of the space curve and a description of local structure is obtained by the gradient structure tensor.

TRPV4 inhibition attenuates stretch-induced inflammatory cellular responses and lung barrier dysfunction during mechanical ventilation.
Nicolas Pairet,Samuel Mang,Samuel Mang,Giorgio Fois,M. Keck,M. Kühnbach,Julia A. Gindele,Julia A. Gindele,Manfred Frick,Paul Dietl,David J. Lamb +10 more
TL;DR: In a murine ventilation model, TRPV4 inhibition attenuated both pulmonary barrier permeability increase and pro-inflammatory cytokines release due to high tidal volume ventilation and may have utility as a prophylactic pharmacological treatment to improve the negative pathological stretch-response of lung cells during ventilation.

Ant societies buffer individual-level effects of parasite infections.
TL;DR: Ant colonies can buffer the drain of resources by the parasite despite strong effects on individual workers, and the investment strategies of parasitized colonies changed as their sex ratio became male biased and as male body size increased.

TL;DR: It is found that BRD4-NUT-rearranged NUT midline carcinoma (NMC) cells are specifically killed by CDK9 inhibition (CDK9i) and depend on CDK8 and Cyclin-T1 expression, and mechanistic basis for the genotype-dependent vulnerability of NMC cells to CDK 9i is provided.
