A New Diazo Method for the Determination of Ascorbic Acid in Blood Plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, a new method for the determination of ascorbic acid in plasma is described, based on a colour reaction not hitherto known between the zinc chloride double salt of diazotized 4-nitroaniline-2,5-dimethoxy-anilines and ascorbinic acid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasma Ascorbic Acid Levels of Chicks with Fowl Typhoid

TL;DR: Ascorbic acid, not usually considered a dietary essential for chicks, has been found to stimulate growth under certain conditions (Briggs et al., 1944; March and Biely, 1953) and Hill and Garren (1955) have shown that ascorbic acid increased resistance of chicks to fowl typhoid when fed with other vitamins as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxidative changes in brain of aniline-exposed rats.

TL;DR: Significant increases in superoxide dismutase isozyme activities and formation of thiobarbituric acid reactive material along with depletion of ascorbic acid and non-protein sulfhydryl content suggest impairment of antioxidant defenses 24 h after single exposure to aniline vapors for 10 min.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nicotine and cigarette smoke modulate Nrf2-BDNF-dopaminergic signal and neurobehavioral disorders in adult rat cerebral cortex.

TL;DR: The data strongly suggest that the intervention of DA and BDNF, and depletion of antioxidants are important factors during nicotine/CS-induced cerebral cortex pathological changes leading to neurobehavioral impairments, which could underpin the novel therapeutic approaches targeted at tobacco smoking/nicotine’s neuropsychological disorders including cognition and drug addiction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spectrophotometric determination of vitamin C in citrus fruits using peri-naphthindan-2,3,4-trione

TL;DR: In this article, a spectrophotometric method for the determination of vitamin C in lemon, orange, and grapefruit juices is described, which is based on the reaction with peri-naphthindan-2,3,4-trione hydrate at pH 3 to give dihydroxy-peri naphthinone which is dissolved in methanol and measured at 460 nm.
