TL;DR: In this paper, relative abundances (as a fraction, normalized by 16S rRNA gene) of 30 ARG subtypes resistant to seven common classes of antibiotics, which are quinolones, β-lactams, macrolides, tetracyclines, sulfonamides, aminoglycosides, and vancomycins, were profiled.
Abstract: Despite its emerging significant public health concern, the presence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in urban air has not received significant attention. Here, we profiled relative abundances (as a fraction, normalized by 16S rRNA gene) of 30 ARG subtypes resistant to seven common classes of antibiotics, which are quinolones, β-lactams, macrolides, tetracyclines, sulfonamides, aminoglycosides, and vancomycins, in ambient total particulate matter (PM) using a novel protocol across 19 world cities. In addition, their longitudinal changes in PM2.5 samples in Xi’an, China as an example were also studied. Geographically, the ARGs were detected to vary by nearly 100-fold in their abundances, for example, from 0.07 (Bandung, Indonesia) to 5.6 (San Francisco, USA). The β-lactam resistance gene blaTEM was found to be most abundant, seconded by quinolone resistance gene qepA; and their corresponding relative abundances have increased by 178% and 26%, respectively, from 2004 to 2014 in Xi’an. Independent of ci...

TL;DR: It is predicted that Mo2MC2O2 (M = Ti, Zr, or Hf), belonging to a recently discovered new class of MXenes with double transition metal elements in an ordered structure, are robust quantum spin Hall (QSH) insulators.
Abstract: MXenes are a large family of two-dimensional (2D) early transition metal carbides that have shown great potential for a host of applications ranging from electrodes in supercapacitors and batteries to sensors to reinforcements in polymers. Here, on the basis of first-principles calculations, we predict that Mo2MC2O2 (M = Ti, Zr, or Hf), belonging to a recently discovered new class of MXenes with double transition metal elements in an ordered structure, are robust quantum spin Hall (QSH) insulators. A tight-binding (TB) model based on the dz2-, dxy-, and dx2–y2-orbital basis in a triangular lattice is also constructed to describe the QSH states in Mo2MC2O2. It shows that the atomic spin–orbit coupling (SOC) strength of M totally contributes to the topological gap at the Γ point, a useful feature advantageous over the usual cases where the topological gap is much smaller than the atomic SOC strength based on the classic Kane–Mele (KM) or Bernevig–Hughes–Zhang (BHZ) model. Consequently, Mo2MC2O2 show sizable...

TL;DR: Two-dimensional (2D) porous carbon AC-SPN-3 possessing of amazing high micropore volume ratio of 83% and large surface area of about 1069 m2 g−1 is high-yield obtained by pyrolysis of natural waste Pistachio nutshells with KOH activation.
Abstract: Two-dimensional (2D) porous carbon AC-SPN-3 possessing of amazing high micropore volume ratio of 83% and large surface area of about 1069 m2 g−1 is high-yield obtained by pyrolysis of natural waste Pistachio nutshells with KOH activation The AC-SPN-3 has a curved 2D lamellar morphology with the thickness of each slice about 200 nm The porous carbon is consists of highly interconnected uniform pores with the median pore diameter of about 076 nm, which could potentially improve the performance by maximizing the electrode surface area accessible to the typical electrolyte ions (such as TEA+, diameter = ~068 nm) Electrochemical analyses show that AC-SPN-3 has significantly large areal capacitance of 293/201 μF cm−2 and high energy density of 10/39 Wh kg−1 at power of 52/286 kW kg−1 in 6 M KOH aqueous electrolyte and 1 M TEABF4 in EC-DEC (1:1) organic electrolyte system, respectively
