Abstract
Chitin is the most abundant natural amino polysaccharide and is estimated to be produced annually almost as much as cellulose. It has become of great interest not only as an underutilized resource, but also as a new functional material of high potential in various fields, and recent progress in chitin chemistry is quite noteworthy. The purpose of this review is to take a closer look at chitin and chitosan applications. Based on current research and existing products, some new and futuristic approaches in this fascinating area are thoroughly discussed.

Electrospinning of chitosan nanofibrous structures: feasibility study

TL;DR: In this article, a range of acid aqueous solutions are studied towards their suitability for developing chitosan nanofibres by electrospinning, and it was found that parameters such as type of solvent, pH, concentration of chitosa, viscosity, charge density, applied voltage, solution flow rate, distance from nozzle tip to collector surface and time play a role in the characteristics of the obtained nanofiberrous structures.

Chitosan/gelatin-based films crosslinked by proanthocyanidin.

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel polymer network consisting of crosslinked gelatin/chitosan was prepared by a solution casting technique and the crosslinked networks were stable in the aqueous state, and had improved mechanical properties and thermal stability when compared with nonlinked gelatin (G) and chitosans/gelatin (C/G) films.
