Relationship between Serum Ferritin Levels and Sarcopenia in Korean Females Aged 60 Years and Older Using the Fourth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES IV-2, 3), 2008–2009

TL;DR: Elevated serum ferritin levels were associated with an increased prevalence of sarcopenia in women but not in men from a representative sample of elderly Koreans, and there was no statistically significant association between sarcopenian tertiles in men.

Serum ferritin level is higher in male adolescents with obesity: results from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010

TL;DR: Serum ferritin levels appear to be associated with obesity in Korean male adolescents and in female adolescents, WBC count, TG, insulin, and HOMA-IR were higher and HDL were lower in the obesity than in the normal group.

Puerarin protects against iron overload-induced retinal injury through regulation of iron-handling proteins

TL;DR: Puerarin rescued the abnormal expression of iron-handling proteins in the mouse retina and suppressed the oxidative stress induced by iron overload, as evident from the enhanced activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase and decreased content of malondialdehyde.

Microcytic anaemia mice have a mutation in Nramp2, a candidate iron transporter gene.

TL;DR: A positional cloning strategy is undertaken to identify the causative mutation in mice with microcytic anaemia, and it is suggested that the phenotype is a consequence of a missense mutation in Nramp2 (ref. 5), a previously identified gene of unknown function.
