Trends in glyphosate herbicide use in the United States and globally

Charles Benbrook
- 02 Feb 2016 -
- Vol. 28, Iss: 1, pp 3-3
TLDR
Glyphosate will likely remain the most widely applied pesticide worldwide for years to come, and interest will grow in quantifying ecological and human health impacts, according to published global pesticide use data.

Field-realistic acute exposure to glyphosate-based herbicide impairs fine-color discrimination in bumblebees.

TL;DR: In this article , the effect of a field-realistic dose of the world's most commonly used pesticide, glyphosate-based herbicide (GBH), on bumblebee cognition was examined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regulations Matter: Epistemic Monopoly, Domination, Patents, and the Public Interest

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that regulatory agencies have a responsibility to further the public interest when they determine the conditions under which new technological products may be commercialized, and that in the interest of advancing public interest, regulatory agencies must evaluate new technologies in a substantively and procedurally unbiased manner.

Oxidation of N-isopropyl phosphonomethyl glycine with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by carbon-supported gold nanoparticles

TL;DR: In this paper, conditions for N-isopropyl glyphosate selective dealkylation yielding glyphosate with high conversion (100%) and selectivity (79.3%) were found.

May agricultural water sources containing mixtures of agrochemicals cause hormonal disturbances

TL;DR: It is concluded that rainwater run-off from maize sprayed with Roundup and 2,4-D contained androgen active substances and the chronic exposure to this water may cause endocrine disrupting effects in humans and aquatic life which emphasise the need for intensified monitoring of environmental water resources.

Smart Sprayer for Precision Weed Control Using Artificial Intelligence: Comparison of Deep Learning Frameworks.

TL;DR: A comparison of deep learning-based target detection methods is presented for precision weed management system and the smart sprayer system will be developed with more precise real-time target detection performance.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

TL;DR: One of the first specialized agencies of the United Nations to become active, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as discussed by the authors has elicited interest beyond the specialized field of agricultural economists.

Glyphosate: a once-in-a-century herbicide.

TL;DR: The use of this virtually ideal herbicide is now being threatened by the evolution of glyphosate-resistant weeds, and adoption of resistance management practices will be required to maintain the benefits of glyphosate technologies for future generations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Concerns over use of glyphosate-based herbicides and risks associated with exposures: a consensus statement

TL;DR: GBHs are the most heavily applied herbicide in the world and usage continues to rise; Worldwide, GBHs often contaminate drinking water sources, precipitation, and air, especially in agricultural regions and regulatory estimates of tolerable daily intakes for glyphosate in the United States and European Union are based on outdated science.
