Meta-Analysis of Genome-Wide Association Studies for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Identifies Four New Disease-Specific Risk Loci

Gregory T. Jones, +123 more
- 20 Jan 2017 -
TL;DR: The 4 new risk loci for AAA seem to be specific for AAA compared with other cardiovascular diseases and related traits suggesting that traditional cardiovascular risk factor management may only have limited value in preventing the progression of aneurysmal disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cardiometabolic effects of genetic upregulation of the interleukin 1 receptor antagonist: A Mendelian randomisation analysis

Daniel F. Freitag, +158 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a genetic score combining the effects of alleles of two common variants (rs6743376 and rs1542176) that are located upstream of IL1RN, the gene encoding the IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra; an endogenous inhibitor of both IL 1 alpha and IL 1 beta) was created to investigate potential cardiovascular and other effects of long-term pharmacological interleukin 1 inhibition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Shared Genetic Risk Factors of Intracranial, Abdominal, and Thoracic Aneurysms.

Femke N G van 't Hof, +69 more
TL;DR: Although there was no evidence for polygenic overlap between IAs, AAAs, and TAAs, a mega‐analysis of 1000 Genomes Project‐imputed genome‐wide association study (GWAS) data found nominally significant effects of two established risk loci for IAs andTAAs in AAAs.
