Evaluating Organism-Wide Changes in the Metabolome and Microbiome following a Single Dose of Antibiotic.

TL;DR: It was found that just a single dose of antibiotic altered host chemistry in a variety of organs and that microbiome alterations were not uniform throughout the gut, which provides a framework for how whole-organism -omics approaches can be employed to understand the impact of antibiotics on the entire host.
Posted ContentDOI

Greengenes2 enables a shared data universe for microbiome studies

TL;DR: Greengenes2 as mentioned in this paper showed that 16S rRNA and shotgun metagenomic data generated from the same samples agree in principal coordinates space, taxonomy, and in phenotype effect size when analyzed with the same tree.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Ensemble dispatching on an IBM Blue Gene/L for a bioinformatics knowledge environment

TL;DR: A new ensemble-based task dispatching system is designed and implemented that is deployed on a Blue Gene/L system in conjunction with the Blue Gene's High Throughput Computing (HTC) capability, able to efficiently process and dispatch large numbers of very short tasks to over a thousand cores.
