09 Apr 1998TL;DR: In this paper, a method of improving traction in an elastomer is disclosed, which includes the step of adding an effective amount of an aggregate comprising a carbon phase and a silicon-containing species phase.
Abstract: A method of improving traction in an elastomer is disclosed. The method includes the step of adding an effective amount of an aggregate comprising a carbon phase and a silicon-containing species phase to an elastomer. Also disclosed is a method of improving the dynamic compliance of an elastomer which includes the step of adding an effective amount of an aggregate comprising a carbon phase and a silicon-containing species phase to the elastomer. The elastomer is preferably used in tires and results in improved traction, for instance, improved skid resistance on ice and snow.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the carbon-silica dual-phase filler on the overall dynamic properties of the vulcanizates is similar to that of the silica.
Abstract: Dynamic properties such as shear modulus, loss modulus, and loss factor were obtained at a low strain amplitude over a wide range of frequencies and temperatures on vulcanizates filled with carbon black, silica, and carbon-silica dual-phase filler. The data were shifted along the frequency scale. Instead of a single smooth master curve, a pseudomaster curve with a feather-like structure is obtained. This effect is especially pronounced for the loss factor. Multiple factors may be responsible for this. Among others, filler networking and polymer-filler interaction may play a dominant role. The effect of the carbon-silica dual-phase filler on the overall dynamic properties of the vulcanizates is similar to that of silica. Their tan δ values are much lower at lower frequencies and are relatively higher at higher frequencies.

07 Jan 2004TL;DR: A method of forming a sputtering target and other metal articles having controlled oxygen and nitrogen content levels and the articles so formed are described in this paper, which includes surface-nitriding a deoxidized metal powder and further includes consolidating the powder by a powder metallurgy technique.
Abstract: A method of forming a sputtering target and other metal articles having controlled oxygen and nitrogen content levels and the articles so formed are described. The method includes surface-nitriding a deoxidized metal powder and further includes consolidating the powder by a powder metallurgy technique. Preferred metal powders include, but are not limited to, valve metals, including tantalum, niobium, and alloys thereof.

24 Nov 2004TL;DR: In this article, materials that are useful for absorption enhanced reforming (AER) of a fuel, including absorbent materials and catalyst materials and methods for using the materials can be fabricated by spray processing.
Abstract: Materials that are useful for absorption enhanced reforming (AER) of a fuel, including absorbent materials and catalyst materials and methods for using the materials. The materials can be fabricated by spray processing. The use of the materials in AER can produce a H2 product gas having a high H2 content and a low level of carbon oxides.

18 Oct 2002TL;DR: Precursor compositions in the form of a tape that can be transferred to a substrate and converted to an electronic feature at a relatively low temperature, such as not greater than about 200° C, can be found in this article.
Abstract: Precursor compositions in the form of a tape that can be transferred to a substrate and converted to an electronic feature at a relatively low temperature, such as not greater than about 200° C. The tape composition can be disposed on a carrier to form a ribbon structure that is flexible and can be handled in a variety of industrial processes.
