06 Jun 1991TL;DR: A wrought metal alloy is a product having a tantalum or niobium base metal, 25 to 1000 ppm silicon, and 25-to-1000 ppm molybdenum as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A wrought metal alloy product having a tantalum or niobium base metal, 25 to 1000 ppm silicon, and 25 to 1000 ppm molybdenum. Fine uniform grain size contributes to improved tensile strength, processability, and high temperature stability.

20 Jan 2006TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a process for decreasing flame temperature in a flame spray reaction system, the process comprising the steps of providing a precursor medium comprising a precursor to a component; flame spraying the precursor medium under conditions effective to form a population of product particles; and decreasing the flame temperature by contacting the flame with a cooling medium.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for decreasing flame temperature in a flame spray reaction system, the process comprising the steps of providing a precursor medium comprising a precursor to a component; flame spraying the precursor medium under conditions effective to form a population of product particles; and decreasing the flame temperature by contacting the flame with a cooling medium. The process of the present invention allows for the control of the size, composition and morphology of the nanoparticles made using the process. The invention also relates to a nozzle assembly that comprises a substantially longitudinally extending atomizing feed nozzle that comprises an atomizing medium conduit and one or more substantially longitudinally extending precursor medium feed conduits. The nozzle assembly of the present invention is used in a flame spray system to produce nanoparticles using the processes described herein.

20 Sep 2002TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method to reduce the tendency of particles to agglomerate and/or aggregate when subsequently dispersed in a fluid by subjecting the barium titanate-based particles to a heating step which removes hydroxyl groups from particle surfaces.
Abstract: Dispersible barium titanate-based particles and methods of forming the same are provided. One method involves subjecting the barium titanate-based particles to a heating step which removes hydroxyl groups from particle surfaces. Another method involves attaching a coupling agent to surfaces of the barium titanate-based particles. Both methods reduce the tendency of particles to agglomerate and/or aggregate when subsequently dispersed in a fluid. Thus, the methods enable production of dispersions that have a relatively uniform distribution of particles throughout. Such dispersions may be further processed as desired to form, for example, dielectric layers, polymer/dielectric composites or other structures. The structure may also include a uniform distribution of barium titanate-based particles which can improve properties amongst other advantages.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the DBP absorption method cannot distinguish between loss in void volume by compaction of aggregates versus the actual breakdown of aggregate aggregates, and the sedimentation method by centrifuging provides a means for measuring aggregate size independent of the original packing of the dry black.
Abstract: Mechanical processing of carbon blacks by a novel pressure-milling technique provides a controlled breakdown of primary carbon-black aggregates. In contrast, direct compression has a much smaller effect on aggregate size. In rubber vulcanizates, the pressure-milled carbon blacks give about the same vulcanizate properties as normal carbon blacks with the same void volume or DBP absorption value. Breakdown of aggregates occurs during the process of incorporating and dispersing carbon black in rubber. The retention of average aggregate size after mixing in rubber is in the range of 60–70 per cent for Vulcan M (N339), a new technology tread black. We have shown that the DBP absorption method cannot distinguish between loss in void volume by compaction of aggregates versus the actual breakdown of aggregates. The sedimentation method by centrifuging provides a means for measuring aggregate size independent of the original packing of the dry black. In order to carry out these studies, a number of new ex...

22 Dec 1969TL;DR: The mineral acid leaching of a tin slag or other metallurgical product containing tantalum and columbium oxides as well as a significant amount of silica is improved by adding a controlled amount of hydrofluoric acid prior to the filtration.
Abstract: The mineral acid leaching of a tin slag or other metallurgical product containing tantalum and columbium oxides as well as a significant amount of silica is improved, with resulting increase in the total content of tantalum and columbium oxides in the leached product obtained by filtration, by adding a controlled amount of hydrofluoric acid prior to the filtration.
