28 Oct 2010TL;DR: In this paper, a carbon black having a nitrogen surface area (BET) of from about 600 m 2 /g to about 2100 m 2/g, and an apparent density (p, g/cm 3 ) of at least about 0.820+q*BET, where q=−2.5×10 −4, was determined at a compressive force (P) of 200 kgf/cm 2 on dry carbon black powder.
Abstract: The present invention, in part, relates to a carbon black having a) a nitrogen BET surface area (BET) of from about 600 m 2 /g to about 2100 m 2 /g, b) a CDBP value in mL/100 g of from about (−2.8+(b*BET)) to about (108+(b*BET)), where b is 0.087 and BET is expressed in m2/g, and c) an apparent density (p, g/cm 3 ) of at least about 0.820+q*BET, where q=−2.5×10 −4 , as determined at a compressive force (P) of 200 kgf/cm 2 on dry carbon black powder. Energy storage devices, such as electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLC's), containing the carbon black are also disclosed. Methods for making the carbon blacks and EDLC's made with them are also provided.

02 Sep 2011TL;DR: In this paper, modified fillers are described which have adsorbed and/or attached chemical groups, such as a triazole or pyrazole thereon, for elastomeric compositions.
Abstract: Modified fillers are described which have adsorbed and/or attached chemical groups, such as a triazole and/or pyrazole thereon. Other modified fillers are also described. Elastomeric compositions containing the modified filler are further described, as well as methods to improve hysteresis and/or abrasion resistance in elastomeric compositions using the modified fillers of the present invention.

14 Oct 2005TL;DR: In this paper, a black matrix is formed by applying a curable coating composition onto a substrate to form a Curable Coating, curing the curable coatings, and developing and drying the coating.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a black matrix formed by applying a curable coating composition onto a substrate to form a curable coating, curing the curable coating imagewise to form a coating, and developing and drying the coating. The curable coating composition comprises a vehicle, a curable resin, and at least one modified pigment comprising a pigment having attached at least one organic group having the formula -X-I or -X-NI, wherein X, which is directly attached to the pigment, represents an arylene or heteroarylene group, an alkylene group, an aralkylene group, or an alkarylene group, I represents a non-polymeric group comprising at least one ionic group or at least one ionizable group, and NI represents a non-polymeric group comprising at least one nonionic group. The curable coating composition, curable coating, and cured coating are also described. Also disclosed is a method of controlling the resistivity of a coating.

12 Sep 1996TL;DR: In this article, the silicon-treated carbon black is incorporated within a silicone rubber composition as an alternative reinforcing and extending filler, imparting higher hardness to elastomers formed from the composition, when compared to silicone rubber compositions incorporating an untreated carbon black.
Abstract: Silicone rubber compositions are disclosed including a silicone polymer and a silicon-treated carbon black. The silicon-treated carbon blacks include a silicon-containing compound that is distributed through at least a portion of the carbon black aggegrate. The silicon-treated carbon black is incorporated within a silicone rubber composition as an alternative reinforcing and extending filler, imparting higher hardness to elastomers formed from the composition, when compared to silicone rubber compositions incorporating an untreated carbon black.
