Economic value added sebagai ukuran keberhasilan kinerja manajemen perusahaan

Abstract: The company's performance is mostly measured by analysis based on the financial ratio for a specific period. This type of measurement is highly dependent upon the accounting methods used in preparing the financial statement. Therefore a company's performance often looks good and improving overtime, but in reality its performance is deteriorating. The unreliable accounting measure needs an improved performance measure that will recognize and encourage management actions and strategies to increase the overall value of the company and ultimately to punish any activity that reduce value. The introduction of Economic Value Added (EVA) has been very relevant recently because based on its definition, EVA measures the amount of value added created by specific action or strategy taken in a company. EVA is also used in the process of goal setting, capital budgeting, performance assessment, and most importantly, incentive compensation within a company. Its implication to the overall being of a company is so important these days that it should not be overlooked when companies plan their strategies. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Kinerja sebuah perusahaan lebih banyak diukur berdasarkan rasio-rasio keuangan selama satu periode tertentu. Pengukuran berdasarkan rasio keuangan ini sangatlah bergantung pada metode atau perlakuan akuntansi yang digunakan dalam menyusun laporan keuangan perusahaan. Sehingga seringkali kinerja perusahaan terlihat baik dan meningkat, yang mana sebenarnya kinerja tidak mengalami peningkatan dan bahkan menurun. Diperlukannya suatu alat ukur kinerja yang menunjukkan prestasi manajemen sebenarnya dengan tujuan untuk mendorong aktivitas atau strategi yang menambah nilai ekonomis (value added activities) dan menghapuskan aktivitas yang merusak nilai (non-value added activities). Economic Value Added (EVA) sangat relevan dalam hal ini karena EVA dapat mengukur kinerja (prestasi) manajemen berdasarkan besar kecilnya nilai tambah yang diciptakan selama periode tertentu. EVA juga dapat digunakan sebagai pedoman dalam hal goal setting, capital budgeting, performance assessment, dan incentive compensation suatu perusahaan. Pengaruh nilai tambah di dalam suatu perusahaan secara keseluruhan sangatlah penting sehingga hal ini jangan sampai terlewatkan dalam penyusunan strategi perusahaan. A grid current-controlling shunt active power filter

Abstract: In this paper, the implementation of a three-phase shunt active power filter is presented. The filter is essentially three independent single-phase current-controlled voltage source inverters (CC-VSI) with a common DC bus. The CC- VSI is operated to directly control the AC grid current to be sinusoidal and in phase with the grid voltage. The APF consists of a current control loop, which uses polarized ramptime current control and a voltage control loop, which employs a simple Proportional Integral control. The experimental results indicate that the active filter is able to handle predominantly the harmonics, as well as the unbalance and reactive power, so that the grid currents are sinusoidal, in phase with the grid voltages and symmetrical.

The role of top management commitment to enhancing the competitive advantage through ERP integration and purchasing strategy

Abstract: The role of the top management commitment in enhancing the competitive advantage through ERP integration and the purchasing strategy. Data were collected using questionnaires from 49 manufacturing companies domiciled in the region of East Java, Indonesia. PLS technique was used to analyze the data. The result of the study indicated that; top management commitment influences ERP integration and the purchasing strategy, top management commitment influences the competitive advantage, ERP integration affects the purchasing strategy, ERP integration and purchasing strategy influences the competitive advantage. One of the most exciting findings revealed that ERP integration and purchasing strategy mediated the influence of top management commitment on the competitive advantage. Top management influence, directly and indirectly, the competitive advantage. This result provides the managerial implication that the management needs to establish an ERP integration and define a proper purchasing strategy in enhancing the competitive advantage of the manufacturing company

Optimization model for construction project resource leveling using a novel modified symbiotic organisms search

Abstract: In the construction industry, determining project schedules has become one of the most critical subjects among project managers. These schedules oftentimes result in significant resource fluctuations that are costly and impractical for the construction company. Thus, construction managers are required to adjust the resource profile through a resource leveling process. In this paper, a novel optimization model is presented for resource leveling, called the “modified symbiotic organisms search” (MSOS). MSOS is developed based on the standard symbiotic organisms search, but with an improvement in the parasitism phase to better tackle complex optimization problems. A case study is employed to investigate the performance of the proposed optimization model in coping with the resource leveling problem. The experimental results show that the proposed model can find a better quality solution in comparison with existing optimization models.

Optimization Strategy for SSVEP-Based BCI in Spelling Program Application

Abstract: This paper describes an optimization strategy for steady state visual evoked potential (SSVEP)-based brain-computer interface (BCI), especially in a spelling program application. In this application, there are at least three components for implementing a complete BCI application: stimulator, signal processing, and application (spelling program). Ideally, those three components should run on different processing units in order to obtain optimum performance. But integrating those three components in one computer system also gives advantages: make it easier for the subject to concentrate and simplifies the system configuration. There are two main parts that need to be optimized: the flickering animation and the spelling system. When optimizing the flickering animation, we will focus on the display driver technology and programming aspects. The optimization of spelling system will be focused on the layout and representation of the letter matrix. We tested our program on several computers for the following parameters: frequency range, frequency resolution, and frequency stability. It can be concluded that using a computer monitor as the stimulator, the maximum synthesizable stimulator frequency is always half of its minimum refresh-rate, no matter which software technology is applied (DirectX or OpenGL). The maximum synthesizable frequency of up to 30 Hz with frequency resolution 0.11Hz is achieved. We have tested our system on 106 subjects during CeBIT 2008 in Hannover, Germany. Mean accuracy for the spelling system is 92.5%. Therefore, the optimization strategy described here led to a stable and reliable system that performed effectively across most subjects without requiring extensive expert help or expensive hardware.
