Elevated Serum Uric Acid Is Associated With Greater Risk for Hypertension and Diabetic Kidney Diseases in Obese Adolescents With Type 2 Diabetes: An Observational Analysis From the Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) Study
Petter Bjornstad,Lori M. Laffel,Jane L. Lynch,Laure El Ghormli,Ruth S. Weinstock,Sherida E. Tollefsen,Kristen J. Nadeau +6 more
TL;DR: Higher baseline SUA independently increased the risk for onset of hypertension and elevated UAE, and research is needed to determine whether SUA-lowering therapies can impede development of diabetic kidney disease and hypertension in T2D youth.
Journal ArticleDOI
3,4-Dihydroxy-5-nitrobenzaldehyde (DHNB) is a potent inhibitor of xanthine oxidase: a potential therapeutic agent for treatment of hyperuricemia and gout.
TL;DR: 3,4-dihydroxy-5-nitrobenzaldehyde (DHNB), a derivative of the natural substance protocatechuic aldehyde, potently inhibited XO activity with an IC₅₀ value of 3 μM and could be an outstanding candidate for a novel XO inhibitory drug that has potent activity and low toxicity, as well as antioxidant activity and a distinct chemical structure from allopurinol.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of Serum Uric Acid and Ferritin in the Development and Progression of NAFLD.
TL;DR: Serum uric acid and ferritin share common pathogenetic pathways and are both associated with hepatic steatosis and MS, thus suggesting a likely synergistic action in NAFLD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bone destruction by receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand-expressing T cells in chronic gouty arthritis.
Sung-Ji Lee,Kwang Il Nam,Hye-Mi Jin,Young-Nan Cho,Song-Eun Lee,Tae-Jong Kim,Shin-Seok Lee,Seung-Jung Kee,Keun-Bae Lee,Nacksung Kim,Yong-Wook Park +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that RANKL-expressing T cells and TRAP+ osteoclasts are present within gouty tophus tissues, and that infiltrating cells express pro-resorptive cytokines.
Journal ArticleDOI
Update on Biology: Uric Acid and the Activation of Immune and Inflammatory Cells
TL;DR: In this review, advances in the understanding of the basic biology of crystal-mediated inflammation are summarized and the emerging role of the inflammasome and the cytokine interleukin-1 in the initiation of acute gout is highlighted.

A Laboratory manual
TL;DR: To develop a program to print the barcodes using two commonly uses command sets and hence evaluates their ease of use for such applications, students should be able to program dot matrix printers, by manipulating bit level information and ink jet printers using page description language, such as PCL.
