The Gaia mission

T. Prusti, +624 more
TL;DR: Gaia as discussed by the authors is a cornerstone mission in the science programme of the European Space Agency (ESA). The spacecraft construction was approved in 2006, following a study in which the original interferometric concept was changed to a direct-imaging approach.
Journal ArticleDOI

Introducing the CTA concept

B. S. Acharya, +982 more
TL;DR: The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) as discussed by the authors is a very high-energy (VHE) gamma ray observatory with an international collaboration with more than 1000 members from 27 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gaia Data Release 1. Testing parallaxes with local Cepheids and RR Lyrae stars

G. Clementini, +637 more
TL;DR: In this article, the first parallax measurements of the primary standard candles of the cosmological distance ladder, that involve astrometry collected by Gaia during the initial 14 months of science operation, are published in Gaia Data Release 1 (DR1) as part of the Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution (TGAS).

The dual-mirror Small Size Telescope for the Cherenkov Telescope Array

TL;DR: In this paper, the development of the dual mirror Small Size Telescopes (SST) for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is reviewed up to 70 SST, with a primary mirror diameter of 4 m, will be produced and installed at the CTA southern site These will allow investigation of the gamma-ray sky at the highest energies accessible to CTA, in the range from about 1 TeV to 300 TeV.
