TL;DR: It can be assumed that basketball players' anthropometric characteristics can influence their level of performance but it is not a decisive factor.
Abstract: PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between somatotype, muscular strength, power output measured in maximal cycle ergometer exercise bouts, and maximal power output and height of rise of the body mass centre (jump height) measured in akimbo counter movement jump (ACMJ), counter movement jump (CMJ) and spike jump (SPJ), in male basketball players. METHODS Thirteen male basketball players (second division, age 19.4 ± 0.8 years, body height 192.9 ± 5.6 cm, body mass 88.8 ± 8.6 kg, training experience 9.3 ± 0.8 years) participated in the study. Somatotype was determined using the Heath-Carter method. Maximal joint torques were measured under static conditions. Power output was measured in 2 maximal cycle ergometer exercise bouts, 10 seconds each, with increasing external loads equal to 7.5 and 10.0% of the body weight (BW). All jump trials (ACMJ, CMJ and SPJ) were performed on a force plate. RESULTS The mean somatotype of basketball players amounted to: 2.8-4.2-3.2. The sum of the joint torques for left and right lower extremities (0.613), trunk (0.631) and all six measured muscle groups (0.647) were significantly correlated (p < 0.05) with the mesomorphic component. Endomorphic, mesomorphic and ectomorphic components were correlated insignificantly with values of maximal power and height of jump during ACMJ, CMJ and SPJ trials. The power output measured in maximal cycle ergometer exercise bouts with increasing external loads was significantly correlated (p < 0.05) with mesomorphy and ectomorphy. CONCLUSION It can be assumed that basketball players' anthropometric characteristics can influence their level of performance but it is not a decisive factor.

TL;DR: That strategy of resignation was more frequently used by single mothers with lower work satisfaction, who were distinctly different from those whose work satisfaction was higher, and from the mothers in relationships (married or in informal relationships) (regardless of the level of their work satisfaction).
Abstract: OBJECTIVES The purpose of the study has been to describe functioning of single and mothers in relationships (married or in informal relationships) at work and verify if the declared degree of work satisfaction differentiates types of behavior at work and stress coping strategies in both groups of mothers. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study was conducted on equal samples of single mothers (N = 186) and mothers from 2-parent families (N = 186) using Latack Coping Scale that measures work-related stress coping strategies, the AVEM (Arbeitsbezogenes Verhaltens- und Erlebensmuster - Work-Related Behavior and Experience Pattern) questionnaire, and a survey. It showed similarity between the studied groups in terms of the measured variables. RESULTS There were considerable differences between single and married mothers in terms of support seeking strategies. The interaction of work satisfaction and the type of motherhood significantly differentiates (p = 0.03) the avoidance strategy of resignation. CONCLUSIONS That strategy of resignation was more frequently used by single mothers with lower work satisfaction, who were distinctly different from those whose work satisfaction was higher, and from the mothers in relationships (married or in informal relationships) (regardless of the level of their work satisfaction). TL;DR: This paper proposes the essential innovation in fixation technique of the RA endoprosthesis components in trabecular bone by means of the multi-spiked connecting scaffold, offering the possibility of totally cementless fixation and the physiological blood supply in trABECular bone of femoral head, which is not possible in contemporary used cemented RA endiprostheses.
Abstract: The resurfacing arthroplasty (RA) has become at present the most developed minimally invasive kind of all total arthroplasties, which is a result of the progress in biomaterials engineering, biomechanical design and surgical fixation methods achieved over the past decade. Despite the raising popularity of RA, which undergoes at present its renaissance, it still causes several clinical complications. In this paper, we present the most important result our research project (4T07C05629), finished in February 2008, which is the prototype of original minimally invasive endoprosthesis for total hip resurfacing arthroplasty (THRA). We propose the essential innovation in fixation technique of the RA endoprosthesis components in trabecular bone by means of the multi-spiked connecting scaffold, offering the possibility of totally cementless fixation and the physiological blood supply in trabecular bone of femoral head, which is not possible in contemporary used cemented RA endoprostheses. Moreover, the femoral component is designed to preserve the femoral neck and head blood vessels. The prototype of the new kind of hip resurfacing endoprosthesis was CAD-designed in the frames of the Rogala's international patent general assumptions [1]-[3], optimized on the basis of the preliminary biomechanical tests on the pre-prototypes, and manufactured in the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) of both CoCrMo powder and Ti6Al7Nb powder.

01 Jan 2016TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a Polish adaptation of Monika Ardelt's Three-dimensional Wisdom Scale (3D-WS), which consists of 39 items covering four dimensions: Cognitive, Affective, Self-Awareness, and Empathic.
Abstract: The article outlines the results of academic endeavors to develop a Polish adaptation of Monika Ardelt’s Three-Dimensional Wisdom Scale (3D-WS). The results obtained using the Polish version are comparable to those obtained using the original research instrument, which proves that the Polish 3D-WS can be successfully used for research purposes. The Polish adaptation consists of 39 items covering four dimensions: Cognitive, Affective, Self-Awareness, and Empathic. The scale testing procedure involved a research sample consisting of 475 people. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was .83 for the entire scale and oscillated between .64 and .77 for the subscales. Over the course of the study, it turned out that some subscales of the Polish 3D-WS can be influenced by sociodemographic factors such as age, sex, and education.
