TL;DR: Aguir et al. as discussed by the authors investigated the effect of the highest-paid CEOs on accounting conservatism in France and found that the highest paid CEOs affect the accounting conservatism of the country.

TL;DR: This article investigated the diminishing return of reserves holding assumption over the most severe phase of the global financial crisis (2008Q1-2010Q4) and highlighted the differential effect of the accumulation of foreign exchange reserves for a set of financial vulnerabilities variables.
Abstract: In a context of increased foreign exchange reserves holding from emerging and developing countries, this paper investigates the diminishing return of reserves holding assumption over the most severe phase of the global financial crisis (2008Q1-2010Q4). Relying on a Panel Smooth Transition Regression model, we highlight the differential effect of the accumulation of foreign exchange reserves for a set of financial vulnerabilities variables. Specifically, while reserve accumulation is effective above a critical threshold to cope with vulnerabilities related to the financial channel, we show that it becomes less effective beyond a certain threshold for domestic bank vulnerabilities.

01 Dec 2019TL;DR: A new regularized version of Tyler's-estimator of covariance matrix is proposed, expressed as the minimizer of a robust $M$ -estimating cost function plus a penalty that is unitary invariant that shrinks the estimated spectrum toward a fixed target.
Abstract: Covariance matrices usually exhibit specific spectral structures, such as low-rank ones in the case of factor models. In order to exploit this prior knowledge in a robust estimation process, we propose a new regularized version of Tyler's $M$ -estimator of covariance matrix. This estimator is expressed as the minimizer of a robust $M$ -estimating cost function plus a penalty that is unitary invariant (i.e., that only applies on the eigenvalue) that shrinks the estimated spectrum toward a fixed target. The structure of the estimate is expressed through an interpretable fixed-point equation. A majorization-minimization (MM) algorithm is derived to compute this estimator, and the $g$ -convexity of the objective is also discussed. Several simulation studies illustrate the interest of the approach and also explore a method to automatically choose the target spectrum through an auxiliary estimator.

TL;DR: In this paper, the central limit theorem for mean magnetization was proved for a SK model with an external field, and some properties of mean magnetisation (i.e., mean spin) were established.
Abstract: Some properties of mean magnetization (i.e., mean spin) are established in the case of a SK model with an external field, and a central limit theorem is proved.
