01 Jan 2011TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present results of analysis of the lithic industry from Bapaume-les Osiers, in Pas-de-Calais (France), which has yielded an assemblage which includes blade production, positioned stratigraphically between OIS 7a and 6, and thus in the early phase of the Middle Paleolithic.
Abstract: Emerging already in OIS 8, the Middle Paleolithic covers a period of around 300 kyr, divided into two distinct chronological phases: the Early Middle Paleolithic from OIS 8 to 6, and the Late Middle Paleolithic, from OIS 5 to 3. It would appear that a certain technological behavior differentiates these chronological phases: non-Levallois blade production. Such reduction has been shown to be more or less clearly individualized during the late phase of the Middle Paleolithic in northern Europe. However, laminar evidence also appears sporadically starting at the end of the Middle Pleistocene, between OIS 8 and 6. What characterizes such blade production? Can it be distinguished from that seen in the late phase of the Middle Paleolithic? Do we see here the first fruits of technological activity that would be subsequently developed? In order to contribute to this discussion, we present results of analysis of the lithic industry from Bapaume-les Osiers, in Pas-de-Calais (France), which has yielded an assemblage which includes blade production, positioned stratigraphically between OIS 7a and 6, and thus in the early phase of the Middle Paleolithic.

TL;DR: It is shown, using a corollary proved by Shitovitz (1973), that a Cournot-Nash allocation is Pareto optimal if and only if it is a Walras allocation.
Abstract: We consider a bilateral oligopoly version of the Shapley window model with large traders, represented as atoms, and small traders, represented by an atomless part. For this model, we provide a general existence proof of a Cournot–Nash equilibrium that allows one of the two commodities to be held only by atoms. Then, we show, using a corollary proved by Shitovitz (Econometrica 41:467–501, 1973), that a Cournot–Nash allocation is Pareto optimal if and only if it is a Walras allocation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the influence of hydrotherapy method-based McKenzie and Williams among patients with non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) in a semi-experimental pretest-posttest with a control group design trial was conducted at Health Service Center, Qazvin, Iran.
Abstract: The study investigated the influence of hydrotherapy method–based McKenzie and Williams among patients with non-specific low back pain (NSLBP). Semi-experimental pretest-posttest with a control group design trial was conducted at Health Service Center, Qazvin, Iran. Twenty-eight NSLBP patients (16 men and 12 women, age: 42.5 ± 7 years) were recruited. Hydrotherapy program developed based on McKenzie and Williams therapy was performed individually 3 days per week for 20 sessions. Therefore, the study compared a hydrotherapy group (based on McKenzie and Williams therapy) to a control group. Participants attended a hydrotherapy program under the supervision of a hydrotherapist. The Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ), and Straight Leg Raise Test (SLRT) were measured at the beginning, middle, and at the end of the 20 sessions to determine pain and functionality of the patient’s improvement. Overall, NPRS, RMDQ, and SLRT scores were improved in hydrotherapy group in the 10th session and 20th session compared with baseline (p ≤ 0.001) and control group (p ≤ 0.001). No difference in the treatment variables between the 10th session and the 20th session was observed (p > 0.05). The results indicated that the NSLBP symptom was improved after 10 sessions of hydrotherapy program developed based on McKenzie and Williams therapy.

Classification JEL – C61, G12, K00, K40.

01 Jan 2013TL;DR: A generic definition for Virtual Social Networks (VSNs) is proposed and it identifies the environments' five essential dimensions.
Abstract: Although social network, social media, social networking site, online game and online community are all terms found in the literature, do they actually refer to radically different environments? The paper proposes a generic definition for Virtual Social Networks (VSNs) and it identifies the environments' five essential dimensions. Thanks to a simple reference framework it becomes possible to compare the research work on the different environments and their varied theoretical approaches. The paper is based on both the literature and original research.
