TL;DR: Results of phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial, nuclear, and plastid data showing that Rafflesiaceae are derived from within Euphorbiaceae, the spurge family are presented, suggesting that the enormous flowers of RFFlesiaceae evolved from ancestors with tiny flowers.
Abstract: Species of Rafflesiaceae possess the world's largest flowers (up to 1 meter in diameter), yet their precise evolutionary relationships have been elusive, hindering our understanding of the evolution of their extraordinary reproductive morphology. We present results of phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial, nuclear, and plastid data showing that Rafflesiaceae are derived from within Euphorbiaceae, the spurge family. Most euphorbs produce minute flowers, suggesting that the enormous flowers of Rafflesiaceae evolved from ancestors with tiny flowers. Given the inferred phylogeny, we estimate that there was a circa 79-fold increase in flower diameter on the stem lineage of Rafflesiaceae, making this one of the most dramatic cases of size evolution reported for eukaryotes.

TL;DR: The International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 352 recovered a high-fidelity record of volcanism related to subduction initiation in the Bonin fore-arc as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 352 recovered a high-fidelity record of volcanism related to subduction initiation in the Bonin fore-arc. Two sites (U1440 and U1441) located in deep water nearer to the trench recovered basalts and related rocks; two sites (U1439 and U1442) located in shallower water further from the trench recovered boninites and related rocks. Drilling in both areas ended in dolerites inferred to be sheeted intrusive rocks. The basalts apparently erupted immediately after subduction initiation and have compositions similar to those of the most depleted basalts generated by rapid sea-floor spreading at mid-ocean ridges, with little or no slab input. Subsequent melting to generate boninites involved more depleted mantle and hotter and deeper subducted components as subduction progressed and volcanism migrated away from the trench. This volcanic sequence is akin to that recorded by many ophiolites, supporting a direct link between subduction initiation, fore-arc spreading, and ophiolite genesis.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reveal six valid and reliable dimensions measuring perceived e-service quality: trust, customised communications, ease of use, website content and functionality, reliability and speed of delivery.
Abstract: In the early stage of internet markets, internet-based financial institutions competed with traditional financial institutions by providing services at lower prices. However, today, more and more companies are participating in internet markets, nullifying the initial price advantage and resulting in low prices becoming a minimum qualification to compete in the market. Therefore, companies operating in internet markets need something else in order to attract customers. What becomes important for internet-based financial institutions is to provide high quality ‘service’. This study raises a research question: ‘how do customers evaluate the quality of e-services provided by internet-based financial institutions?’ This study reveals six valid and reliable dimensions measuring perceived e-service quality: Trust, Customised communications, Ease of use, Website content and functionality, Reliability and Speed of delivery. These dimensions are validated using confirmatory factor analysis and criterion-related val...

TL;DR: In this article, a sample of 1,337 prime time commercials from the three major networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) in 1998 were recorded and coded for gender, age, acting role, and product being advertised.
Abstract: For this content analysis we recorded a sample of 1,337 prime time commercials from the 3 major networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) in 1998. There were 5,473 primary and secondary characters identified. Each character was coded for gender, age, acting role, and product being advertised. The findings were then compared to Bretl and Cantor (1988), the U.S. Census Bureau's 2000 population statistics, and Mediamark Research and Simmons syndicated marketing services. The commercials' producers cast their female and male characters much the same way as was done in the 1980s. Although women make most purchases of goods and services, they are still underrepresented as primary characters during most prime time commercials except for health and beauty products. Women are still cast as younger, supportive counterparts to men, and older women are still the most underrepresented group. Television commercials perpetuate traditional stereotypes of women and men.

TL;DR: In this article, a set of axioms which a desirable solution should satisfy and the proportional solution is the only solution to satisfy these axiomatizations are provided. But these studies do not give a satisfactory answer to the question why the proportional solutions are the most widely used.
