Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Health, Aging, and Disease
Rafael de Cabo,Mark P. Mattson +1 more
TLDR
Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Health and Aging evidence is accumulating that eating in a 6-hour period and fasting for 18 hours can trigger a metabolic switch from glucose-based to ketone-base fasting.Abstract:

Effect of intermittent and continuous caloric restriction on Sirtuin1 concentration depends on sex and body mass index.
TL;DR: Effects on Sirtuin1 concentrations after 1 year of CR are sex and BMI-related, suggesting individualized dietary intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhancing lifespan of budding yeast by pharmacological lowering of amino acid pools.
Nathaniel L. Hepowit,Jessica K. A. Macedo,Lyndsay E.A. Young,Ke Liu,Ramon C. Sun,Jason A. MacGurn,Robert C. Dickson +6 more
TL;DR: The feasibility of pharmacologically inducing a state resembling amino acid restriction to promote healthy aging is demonstrated and genetic analysis of myriocin-induced longevity revealed a requirement for the Gtr1/2 and Vps34-Pib2 amino acid sensing pathways upstream of TORC1, consistent with a mechanism of action involving decreased amino acid availability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Does Diet Have a Role in the Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease?
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the potential of dietary interventions for AD patients and found that they have the potential to act as a future treatment option for patients with Alzheimer's disease, which is the greatest risk factor for the development of neurodegenerative diseases.

Ganoderma lucidum stimulates autophagy-dependent longevity pathways in Caenorhabditis elegans and human cells.
Hsin-Hsin Peng,Cheng-Yeu Wu,Cheng-Yeu Wu,Yuan-Chao Hsiao,Jan Martel,Jan Martel,Po-Yuan Ke,Chen-Yaw Chiu,Jian-Ching Liau,I-Te Chang,Yu-Hsiu Su,Yun-Fei Ko,John Ding-E Young,David M. Ojcius,David M. Ojcius,David M. Ojcius +15 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a water extract of G. lucidum mycelium extends lifespan of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans and indicates that autophagy and stress resistance pathways are required to extend lifespan.

Caloric Restriction Delays Disease Onset and Mortality in Rhesus Monkeys
Ricki J. Colman,Rozalyn M. Anderson,Sterling C. Johnson,Erik K. Kastman,Kristopher J. Kosmatka,T. Mark Beasley,David B. Allison,Christina Cruzen,Heather A. Simmons,Joseph W. Kemnitz,Richard Weindruch +10 more
TL;DR: Findings of a 20-year longitudinal adult-onset CR study in rhesus monkeys aimed at filling this critical gap in aging research demonstrate that CR slows aging in a primate species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of dementia in diabetes mellitus: a systematic review
TL;DR: The findings of mechanistic studies suggest that vascular disease and alterations in glucose, insulin, and amyloid metabolism underlie the pathophysiology of dementia, but which of these mechanisms are clinically relevant is unclear.

Time-Restricted Feeding without Reducing Caloric Intake Prevents Metabolic Diseases in Mice Fed a High-Fat Diet

TL;DR: Mice under tRF consume equivalent calories from HFD as those with ad lib access yet are protected against obesity, hyperinsulinemia, hepatic steatosis, and inflammation and have improved motor coordination.

Starvation in man.
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that decreased levels of active T3 may play a role by sparing otherwise obligated calories by decreasing metabolic needs, but this can be nullified by amino acid or protein supplementation.

Metabolic control of mitochondrial biogenesis through the PGC-1 family regulatory network.
TL;DR: The results point to a central role for the PGC-1 family in integrating mitochondrial biogenesis and energy production with many diverse cellular functions.
