Journal ArticleDOI

Riboflavin and collagen: New crosslinking methods to tailor the stiffness of hydrogels

TL;DR: It is shown that the compressive elastic modulus of collagen-based hydrogels can be tuned between 0.9 and 3.6 kPa by changing collagen concentration, irradiation with UV in the presence of riboflavin and freeze-drying.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis of linear low-density polyethylene-g-poly (acrylic acid)-co-starch/organo-montmorillonite hydrogel composite as an adsorbent for removal of Pb(ΙΙ) from aqueous solutions.

TL;DR: The waste linear low density polyethylene-g-poly (acrylic acid)-co-starch/organo-montmorillonite hydrogel composite could be a promising Pb(II) adsorbent.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regulation of the chiral twist and supramolecular chirality in co-assemblies of amphiphilic L-glutamic acid with bipyridines.

TL;DR: A deeper understanding of the formation mechanism of chiral twists is provided, and an interesting sandwich structure, in which an excess of 4,4'-bipyridine is inserted into the space of primary cages constructed from the amphiphile and 4, 4'-bIPyridine, is proposed, which exemplifies a feasible shortcut to the rational design of Chiral structures from basic molecular structures to supramolecular systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fabrication of Hyaluronic Acid Hydrogel Beads for Cell Encapsulation

TL;DR: HA hydrogel beads could be potentially used as injectable cell delivery vehicles for regenerating tissue defects and a new concept for cell encapsulation is proposed in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Developing robust, hydrogel-based, nanofiber-enabled encapsulation devices (NEEDs) for cell therapies

TL;DR: This study suggests that the design concept of NEEDs may potentially help to overcome some of the challenges in the cell encapsulation field and therefore contribute to the development of cell therapies in future.

Solution Properties of Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)

TL;DR: In this paper, a lower critical solution temperature of poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide was found to be due to an entropy effect, which was attributed to the formation of nonpolar and intermolecular hydrogen bonds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polymeric Systems for Controlled Drug Release

TL;DR: Kevin Shakesheff investigates new methods of engineering polymer surfaces and the application of these engineered materials in drug delivery and tissue engineering.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alginate hydrogels as synthetic extracellular matrix materials

TL;DR: Alginate may prove to be an ideal material with which to confer specific cellular interactive properties, potentially allowing for the control of long-term gene expression of cells within these matrices.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biodegradable block copolymers as injectable drug-delivery systems

TL;DR: The synthesis of a thermosensitive, biodegradable hydrogel consisting of blocks of poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(L-lactic acid) and aqueous solutions of these copolymers exhibit temperature-dependent reversible gel–sol transitions.
