TLDR
Some of the recent progress in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurotrophin regulation of neural circuits are summarized in this Review.Abstract:
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)--a member of a small family of secreted proteins that includes nerve growth factor, neurotrophin 3 and neurotrophin 4--has emerged as a key regulator of neural circuit development and function. The expression, secretion and actions of BDNF are directly controlled by neural activity, and secreted BDNF is capable of mediating many activity-dependent processes in the mammalian brain, including neuronal differentiation and growth, synapse formation and plasticity, and higher cognitive functions. This Review summarizes some of the recent progress in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurotrophin regulation of neural circuits. The focus of the article is on BDNF, as this is the most widely expressed and studied neurotrophin in the mammalian brain.read more

Disruption of MET Receptor Tyrosine Kinase, an Autism Risk Factor, Impairs Developmental Synaptic Plasticity in the Hippocampus.
Xiaokuang Ma,Xiaokuang Ma,Ke Chen,Ke Chen,Zhongming Lu,Mariel Piechowicz,Qiang Liu,Jie Wu,Jie Wu,Jie Wu,Shenfeng Qiu +10 more
TL;DR: The altered trajectory of synaptic plasticity revealed by this study indicate that temporally regulated MET signaling as an intrinsic, cell autonomous, and pleiotropic mechanism not only critical for neuronal growth and functional maturation, but also for the timing of synaptic Plasticity during forebrain glutamatergic circuits development.

Pain catastrophizing is associated with the Val66Met polymorphism of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor in fibromyalgia
Camila Fernanda da Silveira Alves,Wolnei Caumo,Joana Morez Silvestri,Maxciel Zortea,Vinícius Souza dos Santos,Dayane Favarin Cardoso,Andrea Regner,Alessandra Hubner de Souza,Daniel Simon +8 more
TL;DR: The findings show an association of BDNF Val66Met polymorphism with pain catastrophizing in FM, which opens new avenues to comprehend the interplay between molecular genetic characteristics and neuroplasticity mechanisms underpinning FM.

Maternal methamphetamine exposure causes cognitive impairment and alteration of neurodevelopment-related genes in adult offspring mice
TL;DR: It is suggested that maternal METH exposure induced differential expression patterns of neurodevelopment‐related genes in the HPC and NAc of male and female mice, which may underlie the different cognitive behavior phenotypes in both genders.

TL;DR: Results suggest that PAP may be potentially used in the treatment of HIE, as it decreased the expressions of inflammatory cytokines and apoptosis genes in hippocampus compared with HI group and up-regulated both the mRNA and protein levels of SDF1 and CXCR4, which may activate the SDF 1/CXCR 4 axis to moderate brain injury.
