Retro-orbital injections in mice.
TLDR
The authors report that they have routinely used retro-orbital injection of the venous sinus in the adult mouse to administer volumes up to 150 μl without incident and this technique is a useful alternative to tail vein injection for the administration of non-tumorigenic compounds.Abstract:
Intravenous vascular access is technically challenging in the adult mouse and even more challenging in neonatal mice. The authors describe the technique of retro-orbital injection of the venous sinus in the adult and neonatal mouse. This technique is a useful alternative to tail vein injection for the administration of non-tumorigenic compounds. The authors report that they have routinely used this technique in the adult mouse to administer volumes up to 150 μl without incident. Administration of retro-orbital injections is more challenging in neonatal mice but can reliably deliver volumes up to 10 μl.read more

Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase–Activated Protein Kinase 2 Mediates Apoptosis during Lung Vascular Permeability by Regulating Movement of Cleaved Caspase 3
Mahendra Damarla,Ahmad Parniani,Laura Johnston,Hasina Maredia,Leonid Serebreni,Omar Hamdan,Venkataramana K. Sidhaye,Larissa A. Shimoda,Allen C. Myers,Michael T. Crow,Eric P. Schmidt,Carolyn E. Machamer,Matthias Gaestel,Madhavi J. Rane,Todd M. Kolb,Bo S. Kim,Rachel L. Damico,Paul M. Hassoun +17 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that MK2 plays a critical role in the development of apoptosis and pulmonary vascular permeability, and its effects on apoptosis are in part related to its ability to regulate nuclear translocation of cleaved caspase 3.

Gene Therapy into Photoreceptors and Müller Glial Cells Restores Retinal Structure and Function in Crb1 Retinitis Pigmentosa Mouse Models
Jan Wijnholds,C. Henrique Alves,Peter M Quinn,Rogier M. Vos,Jan Klooster,John G. Flannery,J. Alexander Heimel,Lucie P. Pellissier +7 more
TL;DR: The authors showed that targeting both Müller glial cells and photoreceptors with CRB2 ameliorated retinal function and structure in Crb1-retinitis pigmentosa mouse models at mid-stage disease.

Pericyte-to-endothelial cell signaling via vitronectin-integrin regulates blood-CNS barrier
TL;DR: Gu et al. as discussed by the authors established vitronectin, an extracellular matrix protein secreted by CNS pericytes, as a regulator of blood-CNS barrier function via interactions with its integrin receptor, α5, in endothelial cells.

TL;DR: A lack of significant detrimental effects of horse-derived ferritin-based nanoparticles at MRI-detectable doses is demonstrated, allowing further exploration of these agents in basic research and clinical diagnostics.

Mammalian Mst1 and Mst2 kinases play essential roles in organ size control and tumor suppression

TL;DR: It is found that Mst1 and Mst2, the two mouse homologs of the Drosophila Hpo, control the sizes of some, but not all organs, in mice, and MSt1 andMst2 act as tumor suppressors by restricting cell proliferation and survival.
