Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies identifies eight new loci for type 2 diabetes in east Asians

Yoon Shin Cho, +72 more
- 01 Jan 2012 -
TL;DR: The combined analysis identified eight new T2D loci reaching genome-wide significance, which mapped in or near GLIS3, PEPD, FITM2-R3HDML-HNF4A, KCNK16, MAEA, GCC1-PAX4, PSMD6 and ZFAND3, which may regulate glucose-dependent insulin secretion in the pancreas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies identifies common variants associated with blood pressure variation in east Asians

TL;DR: A meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies of systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure in 19,608 subjects of east Asian ancestry followed up with de novo genotyping and further replication in east Asian samples provides new insights into blood pressure regulation and potential targets for intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI

Meta-analysis identifies multiple loci associated with kidney function–related traits in east Asian populations

Yukinori Okada, +414 more
- 01 Aug 2012 -
TL;DR: A meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies for kidney function–related traits, including 71,149 east Asian individuals from 18 studies in 11 population-, hospital- or family-based cohorts, conducted as part of the Asian Genetic Epidemiology Network (AGEN), identified 17 loci newly associated with kidney function-related traits.
Journal ArticleDOI

Smoking and Genetic Risk Variation Across Populations of European, Asian, and African American Ancestry—A Meta‐Analysis of Chromosome 15q25

Li-Shiun Chen, +64 more
- 01 May 2012 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the observed consistent association of rs16969968 with heavy smoking across multiple populations, combined with its known biological significance, suggests it is most likely a functional variant that alters risk for heavy smoking.
Journal ArticleDOI

Association between suicide attempt and a tri-allelic functional polymorphism in serotonin transporter gene promoter in Chinese patients with schizophrenia

TL;DR: Preliminary evidence is provided for a potentially gender-specific role of a "high-expression" 5-HTTLPR polymorphism in susceptibility to suicide in Chinese patients with schizophrenia.
