TL;DR: Age can be used to select samples with larger genetic effect sizes and more homogenous phenotypes, which may increase statistical power, and provide insight into the biology and temporal regulation underlying BP associations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elevated plasma levels of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in diabetic patients with microalbuminuria: a marker of vascular dysfunction and progressive vascular disease
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that sVCAM‐1 in diabetic plasma might reflect early vascular perturbation in diabetic vasculopathy, and may be an indicator of ongoing cellular dysfunction in diabetes, as well as a dynamic surrogate marker for the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Another Modifiable Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease? Some Evidence Points to Arterial Stiffness
TL;DR: Age-related changes in the large arteries and how these changes interact with the pathologies of vascular disease are focused on, with increasing evidence points to arterial stiffness-even the amount of stiffness considered normal in western societies-as a critical precursor of disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spontaneous calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum in myocardial cells: mechanisms and consequences
TL;DR: Spontaneous Ca2+ release imposes a beat-rate-dependent limit on the inotropic effect of interventions which increase intracellular Ca2+.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Different component clusters of MetS showed varying associations with arterial stiffness (PWV) to an extent similar or greater than observed in subjects with alteration in all the five MetS components.
