TL;DR: Structural color materials with bioinspired functions are being introduced into real-life applications and are helping to improve the quality of materials used in construction and engineering.
Abstract: Bioinspired structural color materials represent a curiosity-led, technology-driven field with multidisciplinary research studies aiming at mimicking and recapitulating natural coloration and functions. Over the past several decades, great achievements have been made, including natural structural coloration mechanisms, fabrication of artificial structural color materials, and their applications in extensive areas. In very recent years, research has been propelled forward towards making structural color materials intelligent by incorporating fascinating functions such as self-healing, autonomous regulation, shape memory, etc. These accomplishments create a great leap for structural color materials being applied in real-life scenarios and devices such as in anti-counterfeiting, displays, sensors, soft robots, wearable electronics, organ-on-a-chip platforms, etc.

TL;DR: A robust H∞ state-feedback controller is proposed to achieve the path following and vehicle lateral control simultaneously and a generalized delay representation is formulated to include the delays and data dropouts in the measurement and transmission.
Abstract: This paper presents a robust $H_{\infty}$ path following control strategy for autonomous ground vehicles with delays and data dropouts. The state measurements and signal transmissions usually suffer from inevitable delays and data packet dropouts, which may degrade the control performance or even deteriorate the system stability. A robust $H_{\infty}$ state-feedback controller is proposed to achieve the path following and vehicle lateral control simultaneously. A generalized delay representation is formulated to include the delays and data dropouts in the measurement and transmission. The uncertainties of the tire cornering stiffnesses and the external disturbances are also considered to enhance the robustness of the proposed controller. Two simulation cases are presented with a high-fidelity and full-car model based on the CarSim–Simulink joint platform, and the results verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control approach.

TL;DR: A generalised nonlinear DOBC method is proposed to solve the disturbance attenuation problem of the MIMO nonlinear system with arbitrary DRD and it is shown that the disturbances are able to be removed from the output channels by the proposed method with appropriately chosen control parameters.
Abstract: For a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear system, the existing disturbance observer-based control (DOBC) only provides solutions to those whose disturbance relative degree (DRD) is higher than or equal to its input relative degree. By designing a novel disturbance compensation gain matrix, a generalised nonlinear DOBC method is proposed in this article to solve the disturbance attenuation problem of the MIMO nonlinear system with arbitrary DRD. It is shown that the disturbances are able to be removed from the output channels by the proposed method with appropriately chosen control parameters. The property of nominal performance recovery, which is the major merit of the DOBCs, is retained with the proposed method. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are demonstrated by simulation studies of both the numerical and application examples.
