TL;DR: A generally linearly hybrid coupled network with time-varying delay is proposed, and several effective sufficient conditions of global synchronization are attained based on the Lyapunov function and a linear matrix inequality (LMI).
Abstract: Many real-world large-scale complex networks demonstrate a surprising degree of synchronization. To unravel the underlying mechanics of synchronization in these complex networks, a generally linearly hybrid coupled network with time-varying delay is proposed, and its global synchronization is then further investigated. Several effective sufficient conditions of global synchronization are attained based on the Lyapunov function and a linear matrix inequality (LMI). Both delay-independent and delay-dependent conditions are deduced. In particular, the coupling matrix may be nonsymmetric or nondiagonal. Moreover, the derivative of the time-varying delay is extended to any given value. Finally, a small-world network, a regular network, and scale-free networks with network size are constructed to show the effectiveness of the proposed synchronous criteria.

TL;DR: A molecular material with piezoelectric properties comparable to the industry-standard ceramic lead zirconate titanate is described, the exceptional properties come from finding a molecular solid-solution series that allows for compositional optimization of the piezoeselectric properties.
Abstract: Piezoelectric materials produce electricity when strained, making them ideal for different types of sensing applications. The most effective piezoelectric materials are ceramic solid solutions in which the piezoelectric effect is optimized at what are termed morphotropic phase boundaries (MPBs). Ceramics are not ideal for a variety of applications owing to some of their mechanical properties. We synthesized piezoelectric materials from a molecular perovskite (TMFM)x(TMCM)1–xCdCl3 solid solution (TMFM, trimethylfluoromethyl ammonium; TMCM, trimethylchloromethyl ammonium, 0 ≤ x ≤ 1), in which the MPB exists between monoclinic and hexagonal phases. We found a composition for which the piezoelectric coefficient d33 is ~1540 picocoulombs per newton, comparable to high-performance piezoelectric ceramics. The material has potential applications for wearable piezoelectric devices.

22 Mar 2010TL;DR: A highly efficient system aimed at early detection and alert of dangerous vehicle maneuvers typically related to drunk driving, which achieves high accuracy and energy efficiency and is implemented on Android G1 phone.
Abstract: Drunk driving, or officially Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol, is a major cause of traffic accidents throughout the world. In this paper, we propose a highly efficient system aimed at early detection and alert of dangerous vehicle maneuvers typically related to drunk driving. The entire solution requires only a mobile phone placed in vehicle and with accelerometer and orientation sensor. A program installed on the mobile phone computes accelerations based on sensor readings, and compares them with typical drunk driving patterns extracted from real driving tests. Once any evidence of drunk driving is present, the mobile phone will automatically alert the driver or call the police for help well before accident actually happens. We implement the detection system on Android G1 phone and have it tested with different kinds of driving behaviors. The results show that the system achieves high accuracy and energy efficiency.
