The underlying physics of speckle contrast imaging is reviewed, recent developments to improve the quantitative accuracy of blood flow measures are discussed and applications in neuroscience, dermatology and ophthalmology are reviewed.
Abstract
First introduced in the 1980s, laser speckle contrast imaging is a powerful tool for full-field imaging of blood flow. Recently laser speckle contrast imaging has gained increased attention, in part due to its rapid adoption for blood flow studies in the brain. We review the underlying physics of speckle contrast imaging and discuss recent developments to improve the quantitative accuracy of blood flow measures. We also review applications of laser speckle contrast imaging in neuroscience, dermatology and ophthalmology.

Using pressure-driven flow systems to evaluate laser speckle contrast imaging

TL;DR: In this article , the authors quantified the uncertainty in flow generation for a syringe pump and a pressure-regulated flow system, and then assessed the performance of both LSCI and multi-exposure speckle imaging (MESI) using the pressure regulated flow system across a range of flow speeds.

Neurovascular Coupling Investigated by Simultaneous Optical Coherence Tomography and Electrophysiology

TL;DR: The experimental methods involved in simultaneous OCT (hemodynamic) and electrophysiological (neuronal) measurements to investigate neurovascular coupling in the rat somatosensory cortex are outlined.

Multiage Entropy Astuteness of Therapeutic Laser Stipple Divergence Metaphors

TL;DR: In this article, the mean of LSCI pixel values is imagined in a region of interest (ROI) and followed with time, MSE adornment converts handy to the solitary of LDF facts, for ROI enormous satisfactory.

An integrated device for simultaneously monitoring electrocorticography and cerebral blood flow in rat's brain

TL;DR: An integrated device to realize laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) and ECoG recording simultaneously in rat's brain and indicates an interesting synchronization with blood flow of major artery in the same hemisphere is developed.

High-resolution characterization of the coagulation and drying processes of whole blood based on optical coherence tomography

TL;DR: In this paper , a new method based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) combined with speckle variance and thickness is presented for simultaneously capturing spatially high-resolved characteristics of coagulation and drying of whole blood during the procedure.

Spreading depression of activity in the cerebral cortex

TL;DR: In this article, an interesting response elicited by electrical stimulation was noticed in the cortex of rabbits, and the distinctive feature of this response was a marked, enduring reduction of the "spontaneous" electrical activity of the cortex.

Statistical properties of laser sparkle patterns

TL;DR: In this article, the first order statistics of the observed electric-field strength, the observed light intensity, and observed light phase are examined, and the autocorrelation functions of the complex field and intensity processes are investigated, and that of the electric field is found to be proportional to the Fourier transform of the light intensity distribution incident on the scattering surface.
