TLDR
A Bose-Einstein condensate was produced in a vapor of rubidium-87 atoms that was confined by magnetic fields and evaporatively cooled and exhibited a nonthermal, anisotropic velocity distribution expected of the minimum-energy quantum state of the magnetic trap in contrast to the isotropic, thermal velocity distribution observed in the broad uncondensed fraction.
Abstract
A Bose-Einstein condensate was produced in a vapor of rubidium-87 atoms that was confined by magnetic fields and evaporatively cooled. The condensate fraction first appeared near a temperature of 170 nanokelvin and a number density of 2.5 x 10 12 per cubic centimeter and could be preserved for more than 15 seconds. Three primary signatures of Bose-Einstein condensation were seen. (i) On top of a broad thermal velocity distribution, a narrow peak appeared that was centered at zero velocity. (ii) The fraction of the atoms that were in this low-velocity peak increased abruptly as the sample temperature was lowered. (iii) The peak exhibited a nonthermal, anisotropic velocity distribution expected of the minimum-energy quantum state of the magnetic trap in contrast to the isotropic, thermal velocity distribution observed in the broad uncondensed fraction.

Soliton solutions in linear magnetic field and time-dependent laser field

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors find the bright and dark solutions of nonlinear Gross-Pitaevskii equation with weak bias magnetic and time-dependent laser fields by applying the inverse scattering method and selecting appropriate transformation.

Linear density response in the random-phase approximation for confined Bose vapours at finite temperature

TL;DR: In this article, a random-phase approximation with exchange was developed for the evaluation of collective excitations in a confined vapour of interacting Bose atoms at finite temperature, which preserves an interplay between the condensate and the non-condensate through off-diagonal components of the response.

Dynamical backaction cooling with free electrons.

TL;DR: This work experimentally demonstrates the first self-induced coherent cooling mechanism that is not mediated by an electromagnetic resonance, and reports a 50-fold reduction of the motional temperature of a nanowire using a focused electron beam.

High-temperature superfluidity in an ultracold Fermi gas

TL;DR: Ketterle et al. as mentioned in this paper presented experiments in which a strongly interacting gas of fermions was brought into the superfluid regime by a Feshbach scattering resonance that allows to tune the interfermion scattering length via an external magnetic field.

Theoretical study of Rb2 in He(N): potential energy surface and Monte Carlo simulations.

TL;DR: This 2-dimensional potential is used, together with the pair approximation approach, to investigate Rb₂ attached to small helium clusters He(N) with N = 1-6, 12, and 20 by means of quantum Monte Carlo studies and the limit of large clusters is approximated by a flat helium surface.

Bose-Einstein condensation in a gas of sodium atoms

TL;DR: The striking signature of Bose condensation was the sudden appearance of a bimodal velocity distribution below the critical temperature of ~2µK.

Output Coupler for Bose-Einstein Condensed Atoms

TL;DR: In this paper, an output coupler for Bose condensed atoms in a magnetic trap was demonstrated, where short pulses of rf radiation were used to create Bose condensates in a superposition of trapped and untrapped hyperfine states.
