Abstract
(11) Potassium ferricyanide has previously been used to convert w'c-1,2-dicarboxylate groups to double bonds. See, for example, L. F. Fieser and M. J. Haddadln, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 86, 2392 (1964). The oxidative dldecarboxylation of 1,2-dlcarboxyllc acids is, of course, a well-known process. See Inter alia (a) C. A. Grob, M. Ohta, and A. Weiss, Helv. Chim. Acta, 41, 1911 (1958); and (b) E. N. Cain, R. Vukov, and S. Masamune, J. Chem. Soc. D, 98 (1969).

Probing the Role of the DXDD Motif in Class II Diterpene Cyclases

TL;DR: Structural and mechanistic studies have demonstrated that the DXDD motif in SHC, and the corresponding VXDC motif in oxidosqualene (sterol) cyclases (OSC), initiate cyclization with the “middle” aspartate, which is presumed to act as the catalytic acid in these TPSs.

The hopanoids of the purple non-sulfur bacteria Rhodopseudomonas palustris and Rhodopseudomonas acidophila and the absolute configuration of bacteriohopanetetrol.

TL;DR: Five complex hopanoids have been detected in the purple non-sulfur bacterium Rhodopseudomonas acidophila by spectroscopic and chemical methods and according to the stereochemistry, this side-chain could be a D-ribose derivative linked through its C-5 carbon atom to the hopane skeleton.

Novel methylated triterpenoids of the gammacerane series from the nitrogen-fixing bacterium Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA 110.

TL;DR: The nitrogen-fixing, symbiotic root-nodule forming bacterium Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA 110 contained gammacerane derivatives next to triterpenoids of the hopane series, indicating that the additional methyl groups originated from methionine, probably with S-adenosylmethionine acting as methyl donor.

Phosphine Effects in the Copper(I) Hydride-Catalyzed Hydrogenation of Ketones and Regioselective 1,2-Reduction of α,β-Unsaturated Ketones and Aldehydes. Hydrogenation of Decalin and Steroidal Ketones and Enones

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the stereoselectivity and regi-lectivity of catalytic hydrogenation of ketones and α,β-unsaturated ketones using soluble copper(I) hydride catalysts as a function of ancillary phosphine ligand.

Labeling of low-density lipoproteins using the 18F-labeled thiol-reactive reagent N-[6-(4-[18F]fluorobenzylidene)aminooxyhexyl]maleimide.

TL;DR: The novel thiol-group-selective bifunctional 18F-labeling agent N-[6-(4-[18F]fluoro-benzylidene)aminooxyhexyl]maleimide ([ 18F]FBAM) has been developed and can be considered as an excellent prosthetic group for the selective and mild 18F labeling ofThiol- group-containing biomolecules suitable for subsequent investigations in vitro and in vivo.
