Derivation of embryonic stem-cell lines from human blastocysts.

TLDR
The procedures used to develop 17 lines of human embryonic stem cells from the inner cell masses of blastocysts are discussed.
Abstract
This report, first published online on March 3, 2004, discusses the procedures used to develop 17 lines of human embryonic stem cells from the inner cell masses of blastocysts. These cell lines are available to researchers under a Material Transfer Agreement; according to current regulations, the cells cannot be used for research supported by federal funds. These cells are expected to facilitate research on a variety of serious chronic diseases.

Human embryonic stem cell (hES) colonies display a higher degree of spontaneous differentiation when passaged at lower densities

TL;DR: The results indicated that a lower passage density led to a higher degree of spontaneous differentiation of hES colonies.

Characterizing Migratory Signaling Pathways Of Transplantable Retinal Progenitor Cells And Photoreceptor Precursor Cells Toward Restoration Of Degenerative Retina ' A Systems Biology Approach

TL;DR: Gene expression data for all genes under an experimental condition – sample expression profiles – or for a gene across different experimental conditions – gene expression profile – is then analyzed to obtain meaningful biological information.

Human embryonic stem cells. Problems and perspectives

TL;DR: It is highly probable that undifferentiated ESCs cannot be applied for therapeutic purposes, as there is a risk of their malignant transformation, and main efforts should be focused on the production ESC progenitor and highly differentiated cells suitable for transplantation.

Is it acceptable to destroy or include human embryos before day 5 in research programmes

TL;DR: A prospective study including 186 IVF-embryo transfer candidates who had obtained at least one supernumerary PQE on day 3 postulated that these embryos could also give rise to live births, raising an ethical issue regarding the fate reserved to PQe.

Effects of the Extracts from Fruit and Stem of Camellia japonica on Induced Pluripotency and Wound Healing.

TL;DR: The findings identified the natural plant extracts from the fruit and stem of Camellia japonica as novel regulators capable of enhancing cellular reprogramming and wound healing, providing a useful supplement in the development of a more efficient and safer method to produce clinical-grade iPSCs and therapeutics.

Embryonic Stem Cell Lines Derived from Human Blastocysts

TL;DR: Human blastocyst-derived, pluripotent cell lines are described that have normal karyotypes, express high levels of telomerase activity, and express cell surface markers that characterize primate embryonic stem cells but do not characterize other early lineages.

The serial cultivation of human diploid cell strains.

TL;DR: A consideration of the cause of the eventual degeneration of these strains leads to the hypothesis that non-cumulative external factors are excluded and that the phenomenon is attributable to intrinsic factors which are expressed as senescence at the cellular level.

Formation of Pluripotent Stem Cells in the Mammalian Embryo Depends on the POU Transcription Factor Oct4

TL;DR: It is reported that the activity of Oct4 is essential for the identity of the pluripotential founder cell population in the mammalian embryo and also determines paracrine growth factor signaling from stem cells to the trophectoderm.

Embryonic stem cell lines from human blastocysts: somatic differentiation in vitro.

TL;DR: The derivation of pluripotent embryonic stem (ES) cells from human blastocysts is described, providing a model to study early human embryology, an investigational tool for discovery of novel growth factors and medicines, and a potential source of cells for use in transplantation therapy.

Differentiation of human embryonic stem cells into embryoid bodies compromising the three embryonic germ layers.

TL;DR: The ability to induce formation of human embryoid bodies that contain cells of neuronal, hematopoietic and cardiac origins will be useful in studying early human embryonic development as well as in transplantation medicine.
