J.W. Christian, +1 more
TLDR
In this paper, the authors present a general introduction to the theory of transformation kinetics of real metals, including the formation and evolution of martensitic transformations, as well as a theory of dislocations.

Formation kinetics of crystalline Si3N4/SiC composites from amorphous Si-C-N ceramics

TL;DR: In this paper, the crystallization kinetics of amorphous precursor-derived bulk ceramics of composition Si26C41N33 were investigated in the temperature range between 1500 and 1645 °C using X-ray diffractometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Precipitate phases in type 316 austenitic stainless steel resulting from long-term high temperature service

TL;DR: In this paper, the precipitate phases in a type 316 steel superheater tube which failed by creep were studied by using a newly developed X-ray internal standard technique and scanning transmission electron microscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Isothermal nature of martensite formation in Pt-modified β-NiAl alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the martensite transformation is isothermal in nature with a single activation energy, and that the temperature range where this reversible transformation occurs increases with higher Pt contents, where a series of "bursts" corresponding to a sequence of individual exothermic peaks were observed.

The β to ζ massive transformation in Ag-Al alloys

TL;DR: In this article, the progress of a single β ζ m reaction interface has been studied as a function of undercooling and cooling rate during the β to ζm massive transformation in Ag-24.5 at.% Al and Ag-25.9 at.%.
Journal ArticleDOI

A kinetic treatment of glass formation V: Surface and bulk heterogeneous nucleation

TL;DR: In this paper, an analytical method is described for calculating the detailed distribution of crystallite sizes in a supercooled liquid, and the changes in this distribution as a function of temperature (time) while the liquid is cooled from above the melting point.
