J.W. Christian, +1 more
TLDR
In this paper, the authors present a general introduction to the theory of transformation kinetics of real metals, including the formation and evolution of martensitic transformations, as well as a theory of dislocations.

Kinetic aspects of nano-crystallization in Finemet-like alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-linear relationship between the evolved enthalpy, used in DSC experiments, and the transformed fraction is found, which can give false values of the preexponential factors in the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami framework, but does not influence the activation energy and the index of the transformation, n.

TL;DR: In this paper, the dynamics of nucleation and growth of a thermoelastic martensite in a splat quenched Au-47.5 at.% Cd alloy has been studied utilizing electron microscopy.

The effect of the thermal path to reach isothermal temperature on transformation kinetics

TL;DR: The concept of the true IT diagram, which depends only on the material considered and which characterizes the transformation independently of the experiment's condition, is presented in this article, and it is possible to predict and derive the influence of the thermal path to reach isothermal temperature on transformation kinetics, and the kinetics of the transformation during continuous change of temperature.

Barrier free heterogeneous grain nucleation in polycrystalline materials: The austenite to ferrite phase transformation in steel

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple model is proposed to predict the cross-over between different heterogeneous nucleation regimes and apply it to recent synchrotron X-ray diffraction experiments on ferrite nucleation in steel.

Pseudotwinning and pseudoelasticity in β Fe-Be alloys

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental proof of long-standing theories regarding the interaction of order and twinning in β Fe-Be has been presented, based on electron diffraction evidence.
