TLDR
A new method for determining nucleotide sequences in DNA is described, which makes use of the 2',3'-dideoxy and arabinon nucleoside analogues of the normal deoxynucleoside triphosphates, which act as specific chain-terminating inhibitors of DNA polymerase.
Abstract
A new method for determining nucleotide sequences in DNA is described. It is similar to the “plus and minus” method [Sanger, F. & Coulson, A. R. (1975) J. Mol. Biol. 94, 441-448] but makes use of the 2′,3′-dideoxy and arabinonucleoside analogues of the normal deoxynucleoside triphosphates, which act as specific chain-terminating inhibitors of DNA polymerase. The technique has been applied to the DNA of bacteriophage ϕX174 and is more rapid and more accurate than either the plus or the minus method.

Expression of engrailed proteins in arthropods, annelids and chordates

N.H. Patel
- 01 Jan 1989 -
TL;DR: A monoclonal antibody is described that recognizes a conserved epitope in the homeodomain of engrailed proteins of a number of different arthropods, annelids, and chordates; this antibody is used to isolate the grasshopperEngrailed gene, a homeobox gene that has an important role in Drosophila segmentation.

Amino acid sequence of the human fibronectin receptor.

TL;DR: The amino acid sequence deduced from cDNA of the human placental fibronectin receptor is reported and suggests a structure for the receptor in which the hydrophobic segments serve as transmembrane domains anchoring each subunit to the membrane and dividing each into a large ectodomain and a short cytoplasmic domain.

The complete genomic sequence of the modified vaccinia ankara strain : comparison with other orthopoxviruses

TL;DR: The attenuated phenotype of MVA is the result of numerous mutations, particularly affecting the host interactive proteins, including the ankyrin-like genes, but also involving some structural proteins.

The structure of the mouse glutathione peroxidase gene: the selenocysteine in the active site is encoded by the 'termination' codon, TGA.

TL;DR: This article reported the identification of a genomic recombinant as encoding the entire mouse Gutathione peroxidase (GSHPx) gene, which is an important selenium-containing enzyme which protects cells from peroxide damage and also has a role in leukotriene formation.

Natural resistance to infection with intracellular parasites: isolation of a candidate for Bcg

Silvia M. Vidal
- 01 Aug 1993 -
TL;DR: Susceptibility to infection in 13 Bcgr and Bcgs strains tested is associated with a nonconservative Gly-105 to Asp-105 substitution within predicted transmembrane domain 2 of Nramp, suggesting a macrophage-specific membrane transport function.

A rapid method for determining sequences in DNA by primed synthesis with DNA polymerase.

TL;DR: A simple and rapid method for determining nucleotide sequences in single-stranded DNA by primed synthesis with DNA polymerase is described and was used to determine two sequences in bacteriophage φX174 DNA.

Nucleotide sequence of bacteriophage G4 DNA.

TL;DR: The sequence identifies many of the features responsible for the production of the proteins of the nine known genes of the organism, including initiation and termination sites for the proteins and RNAs.
