TLDR
A new method for determining nucleotide sequences in DNA is described, which makes use of the 2',3'-dideoxy and arabinon nucleoside analogues of the normal deoxynucleoside triphosphates, which act as specific chain-terminating inhibitors of DNA polymerase.
Abstract
A new method for determining nucleotide sequences in DNA is described. It is similar to the “plus and minus” method [Sanger, F. & Coulson, A. R. (1975) J. Mol. Biol. 94, 441-448] but makes use of the 2′,3′-dideoxy and arabinonucleoside analogues of the normal deoxynucleoside triphosphates, which act as specific chain-terminating inhibitors of DNA polymerase. The technique has been applied to the DNA of bacteriophage ϕX174 and is more rapid and more accurate than either the plus or the minus method.

The ligand-binding domain in metabotropic glutamate receptors is related to bacterial periplasmic binding proteins

TL;DR: Sensitive sequence analysis techniques indicate that the metabotropic receptor extracellular domain is similar to bacterial periplasmic amino acid binding proteins, and a structural model built using the observed similarity predicts a ligand-binding site, and mutants with conservative amino acid substitutions at this site are shown to have reduced ligand affinity.

Expression cloning of the murine erythropoietin receptor.

TL;DR: Two independent cDNA clones encoding the erythropoietin receptor (EPO-R) were isolated from a pXM expression library made from uninduced murine erythroleukemia (MEL) cells and showed no similarities to known proteins or nucleic acid sequences in the data bases.

The herbicide sensitivity gene CHL1 of arabidopsis encodes a nitrate-inducible nitrate transporter

TL;DR: Data show that the CHL1 gene encodes an electrogenic nitrate transporter, which is found predominantly in roots and displays nitrate- and pH-dependent regulation.

Selective amplification and cloning of four new members of the G protein-coupled receptor family.

TL;DR: An approach based on the polymerase chain reaction has been devised to clone new members of the family of genes encoding guanosine triphosphate-binding protein (G protein)-coupled receptors, suggesting that they are members of a new subfamily of receptors with a very short nonglycosylated amino-terminal extension.

Mutations in the palmitoyl protein thioesterase gene causing infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis

TL;DR: The identification, by positional candidate methods, of defects in the palmitoyl-protein thioesterase gene in all 42 Finnish INCL patients and several non-Finnish patients is reported, which results in intracellular accumulation of the polypeptide and undetectable enzyme activity in the brain of patients.

A rapid method for determining sequences in DNA by primed synthesis with DNA polymerase.

TL;DR: A simple and rapid method for determining nucleotide sequences in single-stranded DNA by primed synthesis with DNA polymerase is described and was used to determine two sequences in bacteriophage φX174 DNA.

Nucleotide sequence of bacteriophage G4 DNA.

TL;DR: The sequence identifies many of the features responsible for the production of the proteins of the nine known genes of the organism, including initiation and termination sites for the proteins and RNAs.
