Single-cell landscape of bronchoalveolar immune cells in patients with COVID-19.

TLDR
Single-cell transcriptome and T cell receptor analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid suggests enrichment of proinflammatory macrophages in patients with severe COVID-19 and the presence of clonally expanded CD8 + T cells in Patients with moderate CO VID-19.
Abstract
Respiratory immune characteristics associated with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) severity are currently unclear. We characterized bronchoalveolar lavage fluid immune cells from patients with varying severity of COVID-19 and from healthy people by using single-cell RNA sequencing. Proinflammatory monocyte-derived macrophages were abundant in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from patients with severe COVID-9. Moderate cases were characterized by the presence of highly clonally expanded CD8+ T cells. This atlas of the bronchoalveolar immune microenvironment suggests potential mechanisms underlying pathogenesis and recovery in COVID-19.

Defining the Innate Immune Responses for SARS-CoV-2-Human Macrophage Interactions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated transcriptomic and proteomic profiles of human monocyte-derived macrophages and concluded that the SARS-CoV-2-infected host mounts a robust innate immune response characterized by a pro-inflammatory storm heralding end-organ tissue damage.

Resolvin D1 and D2 reduce SARS-CoV-2-induced inflammatory responses in cystic fibrosis macrophages.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 virion spike 1 glycoprotein (S1) of macrophages (MΦ) from volunteers with and without CF and tested the efficacy of resolvins (Rv) D1 and D2 in regulating the inflammatory and antimicrobial functions of MΦ exposed to S1.

Putative Role of Vitamin D for COVID-19 Vaccination.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the role of vitamin D in the development of vaccine efficacy in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and found that vit-D plays a complementary role in vaccine efficacy.

Galectin-3 as a potential prognostic biomarker of severe COVID-19 in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients

TL;DR: In this paper , the potential of galectin-3 as a biomarker of severe COVID-19 outcomes was investigated, and the results showed that it is an independent predictor of severe outcomes.

STAR: ultrafast universal RNA-seq aligner

TL;DR: The Spliced Transcripts Alignment to a Reference (STAR) software based on a previously undescribed RNA-seq alignment algorithm that uses sequential maximum mappable seed search in uncompressed suffix arrays followed by seed clustering and stitching procedure outperforms other aligners by a factor of >50 in mapping speed.
