Abstract: Herbal plants, plant preparations and phytoconstituents have proved useful in attenuating infectious conditions and were the only remedies available, till the advent of antibiotics (many being of plant origin themselves). Among infectious diseases, viral diseases in particular, remain the leading cause of death in humans globally. A variety of phytoconstituents derived from medicinal herbs have been extensively studied for antiviral activity. Based on this rationale, an online search was performed, which helped to identify a large number of plant species harboring antiviral molecules. These herbal sources have been reported individually or in combinations across a large number of citations studied. Activities against rabies virus, Human immunodeficiency virus, Chandipura virus, Japanese Encephalitis Virus, Enterovirus, Influenza A/H1N1 and other influenza viruses were discovered during the literature search. This review includes all such plant species exhibiting antiviral properties. The review also encompasses composition and methodologies of preparing various antiviral formulations around the globe. An elaborate section on the formulations filed for patent registration, along with non-patented formulations, has also been included in this article. To conclude, herbal sources provide researchers enormous scope to explore and bring out viable alternatives against viral diseases, considering non-availability of suitable drug candidates and increasing resistance to existing drug molecules for many emerging and re-emerging viral diseases.

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles (SNPs), owing to their wide range of biomedical applications, have recently attracted remarkable interest for use in cancer nanomedicine. The present research work investigated the anticancer activity of phytosynthesized SNPs against human cancer cell lines. Phytosynthesis of SNPs was achieved by using an aqueous extract of Salacia chinensis (SC) bark as a green source to reduce silver nitrate to silver nanoparticles. Characterization of synthesized nanoparticles demonstrated a UV–visible peak at 443 nm, ζ-potential (zetasizer) of −25.6 ± 0.34 and particle size (transmission electron microscopy analysis) in the range of 40–80 nm, which validates formation of stable silver nanoparticles. The absence of cytotoxicity against normal human fibroblasts and blood erythrocytes confirms the biocompatible nature of green synthesized SNPs. Abstract: Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a universal problem with grave life-long outcomes. The estimates vary widely depending on the country under study, the definitions used, the type of CSA studied, the extent of coverage, and quality of data. This study intended to assess the magnitude and the issues related to CSA. We searched databases such as PubMed, Google scholar, web (newspaper reports), and government websites. The relevant data was extracted from these sources for gathering evidence on CSA and secondary data analysis was done. The prevalence of CSA was found to be high in India as well as throughout the world. CSA is an extensive problem and even the lowest prevalence includes a huge number of victims. It also has various adverse effects on the psychological, physical, behavioral, and interpersonal well-being of the victim. Hence, stringent measures should be taken for the prevention and control of this hidden public health issue.
