TLDR
A public database of common variation in the human genome: more than one million single nucleotide polymorphisms for which accurate and complete genotypes have been obtained in 269 DNA samples from four populations, including ten 500-kilobase regions in which essentially all information about common DNA variation has been extracted.
Abstract
Inherited genetic variation has a critical but as yet largely uncharacterized role in human disease. Here we report a public database of common variation in the human genome: more than one million single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for which accurate and complete genotypes have been obtained in 269 DNA samples from four populations, including ten 500-kilobase regions in which essentially all information about common DNA variation has been extracted. These data document the generality of recombination hotspots, a block-like structure of linkage disequilibrium and low haplotype diversity, leading to substantial correlations of SNPs with many of their neighbours. We show how the HapMap resource can guide the design and analysis of genetic association studies, shed light on structural variation and recombination, and identify loci that may have been subject to natural selection during human evolution.

Complex trait genetics of refractive error.

TL;DR: This review explores the genetic mechanisms associated with nonsyndromic refractive error development known to date and suggests early genetic predisposition detection for developing severe refractive errors may be useful for efficient and cost-effective screening program design.

Detection of DNA sequences using an alternating electric field in a nanopore capacitor.

TL;DR: Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that back-and-forth motion of DNA strands through a 1 nm diameter pore exhibits sequence-specific hysteresis that arises from the reorientation of the DNA bases in the nanopore constriction.

A genome-wide approach to identify genetic variants that contribute to etoposide-induced cytotoxicity

TL;DR: A genome-wide model using human lymphoblastoid cell lines from the International HapMap consortium is presented, to identify genetic variants that contribute to chemotherapeutic agent-induced cytotoxicity and identifies 63 genetic variants contributing to etoposide-induced toxicity through their effect on gene expression.
